Mac,

No worries Mate, as time goes on I'll just remind all that we are at 100% product satisfaction.

Re: A poll Happy with LiFe (PO4)?

Guys,

In re-reading my earlier post I just want to clarify that my statements are in relation to DIY LiFePO4 builds, at this point in time.

There are some fabulous factory made systems already out there and I have had hands on experience installing at least Genasun. For those who want a fully engineered system, with full factory support and a company behind it, the technology DOES exist today...

The Genasun system is beautiful, well executed, well engineered and has a great company standing behind it. I have been using their products and dealing with them for a number of years and they have been nothing but great to deal with.

This is a Genasun LiFePO4 install I was involved in.. Really a well thought out system..

Wow, Nice Genasun install. You do really nice wiring.

How many Ah is this LifePO4 system and what would it cost?

I got your point mainsail .as usual well said.
I have been real happy with lifeline. Very simple charge regiment. Bashed a bit and for that I am confused. I have zero maintenance and low worry. I think lithium will find its way. When these lifelines really give up the ghost I might move on. So far I did not count cycles or get heavy data. They are hanging on and seem fine. Biggest investment has been good fuse's and reduce consumption. Peripheral stuff so I reduce load and make safe the wire runs. In a few years maybe I can vote in this thread.

I can't take credit for all of that wiring just a small part. I was only able to be down on that job for a short stint but would have loved to do more..

That system was both a 24V and 12V system on a 70 footer. While not inexpensive the system came out amazing. I honestly have no idea what the final bill came to as that was not my "department"....

4X the price you want to pay. They should come down as usage and production ramps up. During my EV racing days they were way too expensive but at current prices they are cheaper for EV usage than any other chemistry.

As usual Maine Sail is being modest...;-) It was GREAT to have him involved, even if only in the beginning of the project, where he filled in on short notice for another systems pro who was delayed. He helped with the initial layout in a typically difficult situation (where isn't enough space and miracles must be performed...job was done in a 3rd-world country).

This project turned out great, however it was difficult and involved re-wiring most of the AC & DC backbone and systems (much of it through the bilge), new (relocated) switch panels, new 5kW Victron Quattro, new Phillippi monitoring system, 100Ah x 12V buffer/backup battery for lighting & instruments, etc. etc. The project grew and grew...a familiar story, eh?

So the overall project cost doesn't reflect the cost of the GLI system itself.

This was 3 x 180Ah x 24V, for 540Ah x 24V. Actual nominal voltage is closer to 25.6V.

A 13.8 kw-hr bank, do you have an electric galley?

Set up to run the air conditioning, AC-powered watermaker, microwave, 110V outlets, etc. through the 5kW Quattro inverter-charger. Can't really run both AirCon units (forward and aft) at once, would have need 8kW inverter for that.... But one at a time no problem.

Can recharge using both the engine alt (180Ah x 24V) and the Quattro/genset (100A x 24V), so combined charging is about 250A x 26V. Usually would just use the genset, unless in a hurry.

This is not that big a kit...the new Coastal Craft IPS 56 will have a 1440Ah x 25.6V system (36.8kWh):
http://coastalcraft.com/coastal-craf...specs-560-ips/
What will they be running with that? I have no idea...

Re: A poll Happy with LiFe (PO4)?

Either way life is good when you can store that much power at a weight that won't sink the boat. 25 years ago in Baja I hosted a card game (Bridge) and ran the A/C for 3 hours off a 8 kw-hr lead bank. Besides both the voltage sag and running a deeper than 50% DOD, was able to pull it off. Your system won't sag, won't have the capacity derated due to Peukert, and can be drawn down deeper, so you have it made.

A/C on the hook without the noise of a gen set, got to love lithium.

Re: A poll Happy with LiFe (PO4)?

Bruce, I checked out your website, very professional and the battery swap video was top drawer. Is that your voice on the video? If I wasn't a DIY'er I'd be calling you for any energy upgrades.

1000Ah house bank and 200Ah starting bank. Not going back to AGM, these are much better.
