To consider:
When charging, the voltage of the depleted batteries is lower than the voltage of the “full” battery so no further charging of the “full” battery is possible until all the batteries reach the same voltage and then the voltage regulator of the charging source will prevent over charging.
I have that system with blocking diode and, diode bypass on charging, on my boat and that is the way the charging process behave.
By the way due to the voltage drop in the diode “the low one” never discharge as much than the 12 volts battery. So there is 3 batteries at different state of discharge that will recharge normally without exploding.

Reading to anyone interested of High-Capacity Battery Banks | SolarPro Magazine Thou it's mostly about bigger battery banks it's applicaple for us too..
Of course everybody is entitled to their own solutions but anyway, things you should know
