2 speed electric wenches

Iam in process of having an electric wench installed .
My question is how offten do you use the low speed ?
Plan on using the electric wench to raise the Main and just normal wenching by hand when using the sheets.
Also the refitter says he wants to just use harken and Defender has some really good prices on Lemar 45
This is to be used on 40' cat--big main

Re: 2 speed electric wenches

We rarely use the low speed on our Harken 44. Rare enough to be fine without it at all.

I'm assuming you are referring to electric WINCHES. If you are in reality referring to electric WENCHES - well then.............

no, no I won't. This is not an adults only site.

Ref your question - you'll use the low speed when sending someone up the mast. I have harken - don't know Lemar (lewmar?)

Our books have gotten 5 star reviews on Amazon. Several readers have written "I never thought I would go on a circumnavigation, but when I read these books, I was right there in the cockpit with Vinni and Carsten"

Re: 2 speed electric wenches

We have a pair of Harken three-speed winches (#60). I regularly use the slow speed, especially for the last few feet on the halyard, or for snugging up the dinghy on the davits. It not only provides much more control (important for the dinghy davits) but also yields more torque. This is useful as the Harkens occasionally overheat when pushed hard and need to rest for a few seconds before they can continue -- a problem I haven't had on the Lewmar's (#66's and #44's).

Re: 2 speed electric wenches

May be useful to have low speed if you haul someone (fat) up the mast...
