1993 Northern Lights 12kw genset

I'm interested to know the general opinion of these generators. My buddies sat unsed for a year and a half. When he cranked it up, it didnt generate. I snatched it up for a grand - sight unseen. The 3 cylinder engine runs just fine, it just quit generating. I'm going to send it out for the repairs, I'm just curious if this impulse buy was a good one...
