120V wiring mabru air conditioner

Hello All,

I was recently trying to add the mabru 4.2k btu air conditioner device to my boat. While I have done pretty extensive work on the 12vDC side of things, I have not changed much on the AC side, so I would like to get some input on what feels like a rather small addition.

The instructions for the device are extremely sparse and don't really provide much guidance for wiring: http://www.marineproductsfortlauderd...n-Manual-2.pdf

The P1 and P0 terminals here are for the pump wiring.

I have three wires from the breaker panel, neutral, hot, and safety ground. It looks like the lowest terminal on this picture is for ground, so my question is whether the polarity matters for connecting neutral / hot to L0 and L1. Some sources say that polarity matters and others say it does not matter. Is there any way to tell besides a response from the manufacturer? (I have tried contacting them a few times, but not gotten a response yet)

Thanks for reading, appreciate your help!

L1 is pretty universally considered to be hot I believe, and L0 neutral.

Polarity generally doesn't matter from a functional perspective, but where neutral is grounded it can make a difference from a safety perspective. In addition to A64's comment, Euro wiring standard is brown=hot, blue=neutral. So looking at the fixed wiring on the other side of the terminal L1=hot, L0=neutral.

Re: 120V wiring mabru air conditioner

Hey All,

Thanks for the replies! I had seen L1 as hot but never a standard definition for L0, so thanks for clarifying. Appreciate all of your help and have an awesome day!

I will be installing the same system in my aft cabin. Any helpful hints based on your recent install?

Re: 120V wiring mabru air conditioner

Brown/ L1 is hot 220. L0/ Blue is neutral.
Where is the boat located?
L1 (brown) is 220vac/50 hz and Blue is neutral in many parts of the world.
That is what makes them dangerous in the states, as our high voltage has 2 legs of 115vac and no neutral.
You still can have a live leg even when the breaker is off.

Re: 120V wiring mabru air conditioner

I've found that some of the European boats I encounter run single pole breakers on the L1 only because that's all they need over there.
That can leave what was a neutral bus bar in Europe live with one leg of 115 vac in the USA.
