110v receptacle "marine quality"?

Are the 110 receptacles on boats any different than those on shore? In other words, is it ok to buy an outlet from Lowes and install it on a boat?

It's OK but the parts are mostly steel (some are brass plated steel, test with a magnet) and will rust/rot over time.

No idea if the Marine ones are actually brass on the contacts or not, but I would be looking for that or stainless I suppose on whatever ones you buy. They sell Exterior Use ones at Lowes... maybe those are the ones to get.

Look for Leviton outlets/GFCI's that are marked WR. These are commercial grade. I use only 20 amp outlets.

Leviton’s line of Extra Heavy-Duty Industrial Grade receptacles are designed and manufactured to withstand the harsh conditions typically associated with industrial environments. Available in a wide variety of configurations, including isolated ground, tamper-resistant, hospital grade, etc., these Industrial Grade devices are the electrical contractor's choice for use in factories, schools, hospitals and commercial office buildings.
Item Description

20 Amp, 125 Volt, NEMA 5-20R, 2P, 3W, Wide Body Duplex Receptacle, Straight Blade, Industrial Grade, Self Grounding, Weather-Resistant, Back & Side Wired, Nickel-Plated Brass Strap - WHITE

Full Specs here.

Mine are all ordinary looking. We seldom use 110 except at the dock. Make sure your 110 is GFI protected

Does anyone know a brand where the side screws are not captive so ring terminals can be used?
