Have 15 + year old water heater works Fine! At this age should I replace it before I leave on one year cruise? Cost not issue just the time needed to do it fore I go. Russ

what can go wrong will go wrong, if you don't change it it may die out on you but if you do you may get a lemon....

Mine is 27, and I think I'll wait until it fails, now if I were sailing in cold water / weather that would be a whole different thing.

Russ, where will you be cruising? If boat parts are easily available I'd not replace a working water heater. If you will be cruising where a replacement heater would be hard to get I would consider replacing it now. On the other hand, lots of things built 15 years ago were better quality and longer lasting than new things today. Have you inspected the heater carefully? Is the tank clean and free of rust and scale? Perhaps taking spare parts for the heating element, wires, hoses and clamps would be better than replacing the whole unit.
