Washing machine?

We are considering installing a washing machine on our 380. Trying to figure out the best location and looking for some suggestions from those who have done this.

Thank you,
Angela

We put ours underneath the chart table, removing the chart table and the stool, replacing it with a single flat shelf.

Given the wisdom of hindsight, we would have included a high pressure pump under the sink, we did that later.

Re: Washing machine?

I don't want to steal your post but I plan to install a machine on my 400s2.
If piggy backing with you is OK I will stick around here, if you want to remain a 380 post I understand. My info may have no relevance to your situation.

Re: Washing machine?

We put ours under the desk in the owner version cabin, remove the seat and installed it at the main table.

Re: Washing machine?

I have had a problem finding a 60htz machine to fit the allotted space in the owners cabin of my 400s2.
I gave up.
Next spot was out in the outside salon behind the helm station.
Maybe.
Now I think I will remove the microwave cabinet and install a 24" Miele.
That's what I think will happen, the plumbing feeds are right there as is the power, the drain is an easy hole 2ft away.
Photos to come.

Re: Washing machine?

We removed the bookshelf in the owners side study area on our 380-S2 and put ours on the bench, water is picked up under handbasin, my wife likes the height as do I. Power is already at this spot as well. 2 x 3mm cord holds it in place extremely well. The unit runs without fault even when we are under sail in 20 knots.

We have one similar to this:

Companion Portable Twin Tub Washing Machine | Snowys Outdoors

Cheap, light, uses little power and not too much water. We keep ours in a locker, rather than installed in place.

Re: Washing machine?

We have a CANDY 1000rpm front loader, think it comes from Italy.

Re: Washing machine?

For those choosing a washing machine for a boat, I could offer a small piece of advice based on 7 years of living with one.

If you are using the boat for any kind of long term cruising or living aboard, this is an absolutely key piece of gear, which makes much of the difference between living and camping.

The closer to a full-sized and full-function one you can fit in, the better.

We have a Eudora/Eumenia washer/dryer which was common fit to large sailing yachts in the early 2000's around here. It's German and built like a brick house and has given excellent service.

However -- it is quite small, especially for drying (capacities for washing and drying are different). This is a big drawback as it means many, many loads to get through a family-sized quantity of laundry. Which means a lot of generator use if you're off grid.

I have no idea whether it is realistic on a Lagoon to fit something closer to full sized, but I would sure try, if I were you. My next boat will have a normal domestic combo washer/dryer, preferably Miele, and I will create space for it whatever it costs.

Dash me with amorous wet . . . . I can repay you."

Re: Washing machine?

I agree with Dockhead, a washing machine is a crucial piece of gear for anyone considering living aboard . Camping is fun for a weekend . I just installed a Splendide WD2100XC . This is a vented unit . More trouble to install because of the vent , but this machine is great , I only use the dry function when I'm on shore power . On the hook we just hang stuff up and it drys very fast , clothes come out almost dry from the very high spin cycle.
As Dockhead said get the biggest unit you can fit .
Regards

Re: Washing machine?

My Admiral likes clean and nice smelling clothing. Very hard to convince her otherwise. I fitted a LG Love front loading on the seat in the shower room. The width was exact so no cutting is needed.

Slim 360 washer

We use the washing machine every other day and I have upgraded my single cylinder genset to a 3 cylinder kohler.

I totally agree with Dockhead and everyone else who would rate a washing machine is one of those items that "improves" your quality of life on a sailboat.

Would be nice to have a dryer

Re: Washing machine?

I certainly understand having a washer, but what about a dryer?

I've heard some of these new high quality washers can practically spin dry your clothes.
