Hi All, I'm looking to A/C the aft cabins on my Lagoon 380 without using a genset. I currently have 1100 amp hours in my house battery bank with 480 watts of solar and twin 110 amp alternators. I'm willing to expand my house battery bank if necessary. I currently have a 130 liter Isotherm ASU fridge/freezer that only uses about 50 amps per day and does a great job. My aft cabins are about 200 cubic feet each. I'm looking for a 12 volt micro A/C unit. Any suggestions would be very appreciated! My wife (the Admiral) would appreciate occasional cool sleeping. Thanks!

Depending on location, this is very rough, but in say Carolina summer you will need around 6000 BTU that is say 1800 watts needing 150 amps at 12V. I think a micro unit tops out at 450W.

As a clarification note the required "input" amps for the 6000BTU (1800W) unit is unlikely to be 150amps at 12V, maybe on initial startup unless a soft start unit. The running input amps will be more like around 50amps at 12V. This equates to a 6000 BTU domestic unit that requires 5 amps at 120V AC for example. See this thread too:

1100ah should be able to run a regular ac air cond via a 3k inverter. I think you need more solar, and possibly Li type of battery to get power back in the morn. And smart regulator for your alts.

It also depends on how you use the ac. Do you need to keep it at 68, or could you do 74, basically just getting the humidity out. That dramatically changes the duty cycle of the high A useage.

But seeing lots of new boats running everything off of a 800 to 1k lithium bank via an inverter.
