Re: The New Lagoon 450

I live full time on my L450 the only down side to the fly bridge is the lack of sun/wind protection offered by the standard Bimini. Hopefully that will be fixed in the next month as I am having a solid top 4.5 x 2.5 meters constructed as I type (I hope).

The visibility from up there be it sailing, anchoring, maneuvering in a marina or just kicking back at sunset with a Mojito at anchor can not be beat in my opinion.

There are people that for whatever reason do not like the fly bridge set up (if we all liked the same thing there would only be one model available) so I guess that Lagoon see the need for a 450 to fill that market, but my guess is it would be less than 25% of 450 sales, but that is still a significant market to address with what amounts to modification to an existing model, not a complete from the ground up new model.

I have not seen or been on the new 42 but I do own a L421 also that is in charter, the difference between that and the L450 is way more than 3 feet of extra length would suggest. It is also wider and the hulls are taller so there is a very appreciable increase in internal volume available.

But at the end of the day Multi or Mono, Lagoon or other brand the most important thing is cast that line off as soon as you can and get out there.

Remember every day you spend thinking about doing something is one less day you have to actually go out and do it.

The flybridge was a MAJOR factor in our selection and we wouldn't even consider a catamaran without it. We added a large hardtop built to my design and it makes it so much nicer. An added benefit of the hardtop is that I can walk on top of it to reach the aft end of the boom so tending to the sail at anchor is very easy. We added 2 X 260 Watt Solar Panels and still have room for two more if we ever decide we need more power.

"what do you think about the lower boom and shorter mast Lagoon is advertising as a plus with new sport top?"

How much lower is the 450 S Mast and boom to deck clearance compared to the 450 F ?

Just tried to look at Lagoon specs and both are quoted with the same size mast and same size sails. (http://www.cata-lagoon.com/documentation/pdf/specs)

Should the 450 S not have a shorter mast or larger sails, if the boom is lower. Probably just a cut and paste error in the specs on the website, I guess.

Re: The New Lagoon 450

Looked as fat as the previous one with the main diference of more modernn bows and a cleaner look.

Maybe the guys that are interested on it should also have a look at the new Nautitech 46, now made by Bavaria. They use less beamy hulls under the waterline and beamier a bit above giving interior space with a better sail performance.

I had a look to the new Lagoon 450 at the Dusseldorf boat show but me amd my wife were much better impressed by the Nautitech 40 (also at the show). The price seems also very good.

Polux I think you are confusing the new L42 with the L450s there. The new L450 is the same hull and layout, sans the flybridge. The new L42 is in the vein of the L39 and L52 (aft mast, different bows etc)

Yes, my wife says you are right. Several lagoons at the boat show including a 450 but the new one was the 42 with massive no flare bows.

The number of multihulls at Dusseldorf is increasing with lot's of Dragonflies, Lagoons, a Fountain Pajot and on the Bavaria space several Nautitech. Many smaller trimarans including a Corsair 960.

Performance multihulls only the trimarans (the biggest was a 32ft Dragonfly) but lots of stands from brands of performance cats with small scale models and information about the boats.

Re: The New Lagoon 450

So, what did the wife like? 🤑 maybe you can do a run down of your thoughts on the other boats in a dedicated thread. The open 40s do look interesting, especially the 46. I'm not sure when that will be built/shown but I hear sales from the plans are good. I did price them recently with the similar specs to our current boat ( no genset, no air, upgraded engines, folding props, AIS, radar, aftermarket solar and WM etc ) and including discounts, not including VAT, came up with approx. L400 €310 O40 €325 O46€450. I'm not sure what the L450 would be, probably similar to the O46.

Re: The New Lagoon 450

Why did Lagoon suggest that the S versions are safer? Perhaps because:

1. Lower Ce for the sail plan improves stability.
2. Lower Cg (especially with crew on bridgdeck) also improves stability.
3. Less windage also inreases stability, reduces risk of dragging anchors, reduces speed when running before a storm with bare poles, reduces strain on a sea anchor, improves ability to sail/motor to windward in heavy conditions.
4. Improved ability to communicate with crew in heavy conditions.
5. Easier/safer access from helm to deck/nav station in heavy conditions.
6. Easier/safer access to boom in all conditions.

Will the flybridge versions outsell the 'S'? No doubt. They are ideally suited for the all-important charter market and for those who prefer comfort in most conditions over increased safety in heavy weather.
