NAVTEX

Hi all!
I have a doubt for my L50, do you recommend installing a NAVTEX (FURUNO NX-300) or is it better to look for an alternative solution for weather warnings?
Experiences in this regard?
Thanks!!

Re: NAVTEX

Alex are you staying in Europe or going further afield?

Furuno is nice kit, just expensive for what it provides.

If offshore have you thought about Iridium Go with Predict Wind for forecasts plus e mail? Even more expensive with subscription charges. However, communicating with Dockhead on here during his Greenland trip this year was fascinating and I would receive a reply from him in minutes.

Pete, for this year and the next one surely in the Mediterranean Sea...

I heard that there will be news in the field of satellite communications and I would not buy an iridium go that will be old in the space of 1 year or 2 !

Re: NAVTEX

I have the NX-300 on the boat.
We are sailing the Med for about 7 years.
Never used it!
We use a phletora of weather forecast options, all through cellular, satphone or wi-fi comms. We have never been out of range of cellular for more than 50 hours at a stretch and on such occasions use satphone to get forecast update from onshore friends.

^^^^^THIS^^^^^

We also have it, and are sailing the Med at the moment. While I'm sure I'll be happy to have it later on longer crossings, but for now every time I sit and force myself to start scrolling thru it my brain starts making like when you forget to shift gears going up a big hill in a clapped out truck until I snap out of it and pull out my phone and hit the app for Windy. For the Med, you don't need it at all.
