Modifying the cabins / bathrooms?

Stop me now...!

As we boat-shop and find owner version cats few and far between, I just have to ask: it is possible to completely remodel one of the bedroom cabins?

I'd like to remove the bed and design a "chill-out" room for the kids with a couch and movie TV on the wall, but I'd also like to use it as a classroom / office / storage area. (Planning to live aboard for 8 months/year.)

Has anyone done anything similar? What are your thoughts?

I also fantasize about changing one of the bathrooms to a washing machine / desalinization station, and changing another to a large shower.

There are only four of us -- we don't need four heads and four cabins. But we could use that space in so many other ways!

BTW we are looking at 410s and 440s.

Thanks!

I might have thought there might be some similarities....

Re: Modifying the cabins / bathrooms?

Thanks for the link, 2Wind. Some pretty hefty mods in there. Do any of you Lagoon 440 / 410 owners know what lies beneath your beds? I think the 410 has engines under the back beds, right?

Thanks!

Re: Modifying the cabins / bathrooms?

Beneath each berth aft lie a 325 litre fuel. These are in a fore/aft orientation and are located on the outer half of the space below each of the beds. The hot water tank lies adjacent on STBD and the house battery banks on port. No moving these. Under the forward berths is empty storage space, although some boats might have equipment there - mine has a water maker on port side.

The 410 has the engines under the aft bunks. The port side also has the batteries, and the starboard side has the water heater. The fuel tanks are under the floor in the aft cabins.

Lagoon 440: Modifying the cabins / bathrooms?

We also considered doing that before we bought, for the same reason: why would a family of 5 possibly want 4 bathrooms? We also thought of installing folding tables for homeschooling in 2 or 3 of the cabins. Actually, we quickly found out that:
- our kids prefer to do their school work together around the big table, the cockpit table or even, when there's not too much sun, the forward cockpit.
- they enjoy the privacy of having their own in-suite bathroom
- there's so much storage on the L440 that we don't need to use some bathrooms as extra storing areas, except maybe during crossings. Even folding bikes fit in the outside lockers
- now and then, for a few weeks, our two youngest decide to sleep together and turn the vacant cabin into a common playroom.
For movies, it's easy to install a flat screen TV (up to about 36 inches) on a folding arm above the escape hatch, in one of the aft cabins.

Re: Modifying the cabins / bathrooms?

Another thing that would be really interesting could be modify the TWO BATHROOM in a lagoon 4 cabin version into a single bigger one, (as it is possible to choose for the Lagoon 440 layout for example) doing that into 1 hull and that will have one bigger bathroom with washer (for example etc.) and leaving the other two bathroom into the other hull.

Does anyone has experiences, pictures about these customization for Lagoon catamarans generally ?

Yeah I mean the WC, see the Lagoon 440 Layout above ? It would be great if two of his WC could became just one bigger WC as in the lagoon 400.
Is it possible ? Is there anybody that did this customization?

Modifying the cabins / bathrooms?

The Master/Owners WC on our L450 is a huge room and one would think you could create or get the same on an Owners version of the L440.

It is very spacious.

Yes I know very well your L450 layout, but I was thinking about turning the 2 WC into a bigger one without loosing the 4th cabin. I would like to keep the 4th cabin for chartering but since I'm not planning to charter so much I think that would be better on one of the hulls having a bigger WC without losing the 4th cabin.
Is there anyone that did a customization like this ?

Hey come on man, is something that Lagoon Yard already adopted on smaller models as option (ex. Lagoon 400)!!

Modifying the cabins / bathrooms?

I have seen the L450 being built and the bathrooms are built as a stand alone unit fully fitted and then inserted into the hulls prior to joining the top deck.

I am sure it can be done but won't be cheap.
