Thanks Monte, yes the owners hull sofa is much less use than the saloon sofa.

Seriously though, it makes for a nice space, even though ive sat there for less than 5 minutes in the last year full time aboard, it gives an open airy feel to the master cabin, and storage under and above is more than enough. Like Scotts GF said, we have a lot of half empty storage spaces so we dont need the small amount of additional storage space that could be gained by modifying the area and replacing the sofa with a full height cupboard. It would be quite easy to do though..

We have just had visitors stay with us for 2 weeks, so 6 on board, I was a little concerned how we would go, all went really well did not feel cramped at all. We also had other friends visit for a day of sailing and lunch increasing the numbers by 10.There is so much room on this boat it still continues to exceed our expectations.

As for the sofa in my bedroom.
I'm sitting on it now, not sure why but that's what is going on in my world.
We call the area at the foot of the bed the dressing room, that may answer questions as to what we use the sofa for.
The other use is storage.
One day I might store something under there but for now there is nothing in there.

For the 400 owners, have a peek at the storage under the floors.
I gel coated the bilges and then installed sub floors above the actual bilge.
Great spot for heavy stuff, nice and low C of G.

My need for a water maker right now is zero but when I sail away I will have one for sure.
Locating the perfect spot is still a work in progress.
Pics of install on a 400 s2 would be welcome.
My 90 year old dad just completed his 45th day on the 400, most were day sails but I will take what I can get.
I also tried loading the video of him boarding but failed.
We're out again today.

The North is getting warmer and the enclosure on my 400s2 is slowly getting stored.
The open feeling is wonderful, sitting in the rear salon is magical.
Having our meals outside makes the food taste better.

Am installing a Rainman AC electric 140l/hr portable watermaker. Whilst it can be removed for service, I am plumbing a series of two filters for saltwater and one carbon filter for freshwater flushing from the boat's tanks. Plenty of room under the front port side bunk (no air con fitted ) for motor/pump unit as well as double 40 inch filters. Installing filters and controls inside front port cabin wall inspection hatch.

Photo 2: Close-up of hose tails to connect hose to new filter assembly. Existing single filter body is retained but bypassed. Double 40 inch membranes are mounted on side of bunk base below.

Photo 3: Paguro 2000, 2.5kVa genset looking lonely in the cockpit locker.
This powers the watermaker and has a bit of puff left to charge batteries.

Photo 4: The rear sunshade. We used solar panels as these provide great shade. They also charge the batteries (1150 watts) as well as make a handy clothes line rack. We could run the watermaker (perhaps) but the current draw through the inverter may be a bit too savage on our battery bank.

Hi, Everyone...
We are just about to put a 450 into charter with Dream Yacht Charters in La Paz, Mexico. We have done charters in many locations and think this is a good way to get lots of weeks on our boat during the years that we still have to keep our Sailboat Shop open in the Summers in Northern California. I know lots of people are against charter boat ownership but this is one way to have it help pay down the loan, and it will be just a $400 dollars plane ride away.

Sounds like a great plan to me.
We put a 421 in charter 2011 and now live on a L450. Still own the 421 it is providing funds to cruise with. Just waiting for weather to head North from Brisbane.
