Longer Bowsprit

Hi,

Did anyone put a longer bowsprit then the original one on his 450 ?

I have a code 0 from one Sails and a Code D from Delta sails.

In my opinion a longer bowsprit could work better because with winds

over 90 deg app the angle between Main and the Code D gets bigger

The Problem on the 450 with this is that the main is steeling the wind for the

Gennaker

Any recommendations ?

What AWA are we talking about ?

With genoa & MS, I think on most monohulls the max AWA is around 150, on my L440 it is probably closer to 140. I don't think it is any different on the L450.

Now with the gennaker, I would typically not raise the mainsail when sailing long distances above 130/140AWA. Actually I would use the spinnaker alone.

I am sure a longer bowsprit would improve performance a bit with gennaker & mainsail, but seems rather complicated and pricey to me.

Re: Longer Bowsprit

Try attaching the tack on the code 0 tack/drum to the windward bow pad eye - it works for us when main is blanketing the gennaker on deep down wind angles.
