Lagoon's answer to FP new 47?
Anybody has an idea how and when Lagoon will fill up its gap in the 45-52 range?
Fountaine Pajot did a remarkable job with their New 47, it seems to me Lagoon should answer with a similar 47, or better 48, model, no?
Please share your paranormal viewpoints...

Re: Lagoon's answer to FP new 47?
I think Lagoon will update the 450 sooner than filling the gap between the 450 (loa 45' 10") and 52. The FP 47 is loa 45' 8".
If a lagoon "45" turns out anything like the new 42 it will be a beautiful boat.

Re: Lagoon's answer to FP new 47?
Interesting reply, thanks John!
Didn't Lagoon updated their 45 model with a Sporttop? But true, it's still an older design... I'm very curious actually how Lagoon will respond to that (beautiful) Fountaine Pajot 47. I'm hoping for a new 48...

I don't think they will get rid of the 450, it is way too popular. Maybe supplement it with say the 46 the way they made the 39 and 42 but keep making the 380 and 4xx. If the new 46/7/8 is like the 42 it would be a great success.

FP has a 47. Leopard has a 48. You have to one up the competition. I think they will come out with a 49. LOL

Re: Lagoon's answer to FP new 47?
My broker told me the waiting list on the new Lagoon 42 is 18 months vs 8 months for the 450. I'm guessing the 42 is stealing sales from the more expensive 450 and Lagoon will want to fix that.
The FP47 is the same size as the L450 and the base price Eur70K more. I wonder how many FP47s have been signed up?

I would not give too much credence to those wait times. Alot of those sales slots are actually taken up by brokers. When I was considering the Lagoon 42, the broker I was working with told me that the wait time was 12 months but he had a "pre-order" that he would be able to deliver by September. He also gave me the line saying that since he ordered it early I would get "special pricing". All that was just a bunch of BS. When he saw that the demand was high he changed his tune on the pricing. I do not think this is specific for Lagoons but is also true for other brokers representing mass production catamarans. Maybe not so much for Leopards in the US since there's only one broker.
My point is just because somebody says the production slots are taken up for 12 months out doesn't mean you can't get one earlier, because alot of those slots are not bona fide buyers and just brokers speculating. Anybody who has been on the email list for the FP dealer in Annapolis knows what I'm talking about. You get an email every couple weeks about a buyer "moving slots or changing plans". A new boat slot miraculously becomes available every couple of weeks.

Re: Lagoon's answer to FP new 47?
Maybe they'll present a new model at the Cannes show in September...? If I remember correctly it was in Cannes last year they announced the 42, so history might repeat itself.
Everybody is aware of the fierce competition between Fountaine Pajaot and Lagoon (although I read somewhere Lagoon takes 50% of the industry...?) it would seem evident Lagoon catches up.
Let's wait and see!

Re: Lagoon's answer to FP new 47?
Although the 450 is becoming somewhat dated, are you sure that the FP 47 is not FP's answer to the 450? It's only 2 inches longer at exactly 46 feet LOA. Not sure why FP didn't label it the FP 46.
A true 48/49 from Lagoon would fit nicely between the 450 and the 52.

Correct, but I see a big base price difference between a Lagoon 45 and its next model, a 52. It's almost double in price, that's a huge leap. I'm convinced some sailers buy in function of an available budget, and some might fit just in between. So sorry to repeat myself but to me, it would seem wise from Lagoon to introduce a true 48/49, asap!

I agree with you. I got a 380 and can afford no more, in fact I never thought I would be able to ever get this one, a weaker euro helped me that final 10%.
The 42 is going to do well not only based on it's performance, but also on its bang for the buck. Price it too close to the 450 and it will never sell, price it too low and it will take sales away from the lower models.

At one time, the L42 here in Texas had an asking price of over $650K. A L450 they had was $750K, and I think that it recently sold it as a "never titled" 2015 for much less the the asking price for the L42. At least for me, its hard to get excited about the L42, if I can buy a new, well equipped L450 for less than 15% more.

I have heard the L450 is now at over 800 boats produced, does anyone know the true number?

Re: Lagoon's answer to FP new 47?
A couple of people have mentioned earlier build slots becoming available. I agree it does seem to happen with regularity. My wife and I ordered a new Lagoon 42 just over a month ago and we have been assigned hull #138. Just before placing our order we had the opportunity to purchase hull #14, which will be in Annapolis. We decided to pass on hull #14 and stick with our order because the timing on hull #14 didn't really fit our timeline and we were told there is a good probability we will move up anyway.
