Lagoon 450 anchor

I am in the process of getting a better anchor for my Lagoon 450. I am interested in the Manson Supreme 36kb/80lb and the Rocna 40kg/88lb. These were the anchors recommended from the manufacturers. I know they are on the large side but I like to sleep well at night and I always oversize safety equipment.

I do not want to start a debate about the Rocna Chinese steel...

Does anyone know which one of these two anchors will fit on the 450?

Boom,

We haven't had the opportunity to use it very much yet but we looked at the same two anchors and went with the Manson. It fits perfectly on our 450.

Re: Lagoon 450 anchor

Lacky Larry,

To tell you the truth, I prefer the Manson, as it has had no quality problems. I've had a Manson 60lb (and 400ft of chain...) on my ex-powerboat (55ft) and it never dragged. I was concerned about the size of the Manson shank so I am glad it is working for you.

Thank you!

I can vouch for the Manson 80# holding....no, make that becoming a part of Mother Earth where my previous anchor, 88# Delta would not. And my boat is completely enclosed with canvas that subjects it to develop a huge wind load.

The Manson people recommended the 80# also. Actually, they said that for coastal cruising the 60# is probably fine with all chain but for more serious cruising the 80# is a must.

Re: Lagoon 450 anchor

We rode out hurricane Sandy in Clarencetown, BS in the Blue Hole on a Lagoon 46. The winds were over 100Kts. We had out 2 40lb plows in 20 feet of water. One was on 250' of 3/8 chain the other was on 50 foot of chain and 200' 3/4" nylon we started to drag at 80 Kts and battled the storm for 2 hours trying to head up into the wind.

When the winds peaked it was impossible to keep a point on her and we made a controlled landing on the sandy lee shore. When the eye came over I had the crew walk out a line and tie to a big tree. When the wind switched we came off and rode the night out comfortably tied to that tree.

There were five other boats with us all but one wound up on the beach. They had a Rocna 40 with 250 feet of 7/16' chain. Here's the site: Rocna Anchors // Rock Solid » Rocna Anchors

The clip is after we landed on the beach the winds where under 60 at that point.

This was the fifth hurricane that my crew and I have been through the other four were at far out sea. Don't try this at home.

Our hands were a little full battling the storm, saving the vessel and crew. Live footage would have been priceless. You are welcome to have us along the next time you sail through a hurricane. That's what we do and we are the best at it.

We have the Rocna 40kg on our 450. Holds great and fits our bow roller without modifications. Another 450 of a friend has the Manson. They mad a small modification by inserting a plastic bumbler above the anchor. Theirs holds great too.

Re: Lagoon 450 anchor

Be sure to check the dimensions. We have a Manson 100# on our boat, but the Rocna 88# (or whatever it is) is wider. We were limited by a bowsprit.

Re: Lagoon 450 anchor

We have a 60lb Manson Supreme on our 420 and we have just sat out a blow last night with gusts up to 50kts. In fact it's still blowing hard.

Haven't moved an inch ( thankfully), so we are very happy with our Manson.
