Hi!

I am Etienne Botes - to my amazement I see this thread popping up after I started it back in February 2007! My username has changed from Etienne to Etienne Botes as forgot my old password and my e-mail has subsequently changed. But I visit here regularly actually, more than I post. My plan is still to do the cruising dream, but I have changed to my preferences to a Leopard 46. If Lagoon can just change that flybridge to the design as on the Leopard and the Salina I would be interested again.

It also seems to me like the whole hybrid thing has also died down a bit. Well, who knows, early days yet, alternative energy is still in its infancy.

Glad to be back :-)

nice to see you back ! the leopard seems a great boat , I bought the Lagoon 440 no Hybrid just normal engines .. after all we are going to try and use sails to the maximum ! :-)
and ... I love the flybridge it is a great place to be on !
but it is a matter of taste .. so far it was not available on sail boats but got all over the motor yachts ! I guess fr a reason .

Wow, nicely done Andy! The Lagoon is still on my radar, mostly because of the amazing interior. But my concerns about the topic of this thread keeps lingering in my mind, as well as stuff such as wind and sun exposure.

But yes, very nice boat!!

Best to you,
Etienne Botes

Hi Etienne,
I have had my 440 for 18 months now, when i picked it up i sailed it to turkey and it was a lovely 5 week cruise, i too had a good think about the flybridge and what it would be like under way, having spent plenty of time up there, i assure you it is a fantastic place to be,as far as the sun goes we put up the standard bimini and it protects half of the 7 or so seats up there.Ok its not ideal when its rough but i used to go inside and helm from there with the autopilot, the visibility of the upright windows is second to none, even in the back cockpit you can keep a good watch through the windows.
If you are buying your boat to sail around the world then maybe you would want more of a sheltered helm, but most people use these boats for coastal cruising like me,and spend most nights at anchor, and for this for the money there is no better boat.
I had a FP lavezzi before this boat and i can tell you the build quality of the lagoon is better.
Good luck
Jimmy

Thank you Jimmy - it makes a lot of sense. I will really consider the Lagoon carefully again, given all that I have learnt in the last year or so.

Best to you

This is the article in the magazine. It's kind of funny, the actual title is "One of the most popular crusing cats in the world" and the catamaran company retitled it to "One of the best cruising boats available". No knocks against the boat, but I can just feel the grease coming off the brokerage.
