Hi, folks. I'm new to these forums, and am trying to decide between a Lagoon 44 and a Leopard 46. This thread dealt with that choice a couple of years ago. I'd love to know if anyone has made that choice lately, which way they went, and why. I was hoping to go with a hybrid L440, but things don't seem to be going so well for that approach. BTW: I noticed several folks asked why the L440 is so heavy, but I never saw anyone post what seems to be the most obvious reason: the L440 uses obsolete hand-laid fiberglass, even though most Lagoons (and all Leopards, as far as I know) use modern vacuum-bagging.

There is no difference between the way the Lagoon 440 and the Leopard 460 are produced , both are hand laid and and vacuum bagged , both are good and strong cats and yes both are on the heavy side but if you are in no hurry who cares.
Greetings

Where are you getting your information? The official Lagoon website lists the models that are vacuum-bagged, and the 440 is not one of them. I checked with the official Lagoon sales company, and they confirmed that the 440 is hand-laid.

Hi
Well I just went via that dilemma and that was this very year and not a year ago, my final decision was fr a Lagoon , reasons where that I loved the Flight Bridge , I loved the Finnish of the boat and the fact that the Leopard is a bit faster does not play a role for me as I have time and it was pure comfort I was going for .
more over sailing in the Med I will cover short distances mainly so the time difference will not be significant ( I assume the diference can be 0.5 knot an hour meaning 3 knots diference in six hours - that will bring me 0.5 hours later then with a leopard and that is also a maybe )
I did a major survey on several boats including the Salina 48 and Orana 44 and tried them , I was also in several boat shows like Cannes and genova . and my desicion at the end was firm on the Lagoon 44 .
well I guess it was also a matter of personal taste and the way it fits my large family , but I simpetaise with your situation now it is pretty hard to make a desicion , my finnal options where also the leopard 46 and the lagoon 44
Regards
Andy

Hallo Restorm
All Lagoon are vacuum bagged with the exception of the newer models.
These are resin infused , you can find this on their web site.
Greetings and good luck in making a choice.
If you go to the following site from Andy ( adaero ) he has made a very nice way to compare cats all in the sizes from 42 up to 48 ft
Tulliana - The Boat and look at the spreadsheet you can compare and or change his since ratings or points given are always subjective
Greetings
Gideon

Hi Restorm.
I would like to add the fastcat ( Gideon ) Adaero made a very nice table that I was looking into it as well during my debate time , but I had to change his coments on some boats as where subjective .
In my correction to the table the Lagone and Leopard came almost even also on $ value which now due to the week Euro it is not correct any more so actually $ wise the Lagoon will be far better now .
Regards
Andy

Thanks, everyone.
I appreciate the quick and thoughtful responses from all of you.
Andy: Apparently there's conflicting information on the Lagoon website, if you found a place where it says the 440 is vacuum-bagged. The following page on their site says the 440 is not ( LAGOON - distributeur catamaran- bateaux de plaisance). And Staley Weidman, one of the main Lagoon sales reps in the States acknowledged by email that the 440 is hand-laid. Lots of confusion...
