450: L450 Square Top Mainsail.

The other day I noticed a bit of rope attached to mainsail at the third baton down from top that was flapping and wrapped around our side stay. It did not hinder the dropping of sail as it unwrapped and the sail came down.

This is NOT part of the Square Top head system (totally separate piece of dyneema) it is another full baton bellow that.

It is 12 strand 3mm single braided dyneema about 700 mm long attached to a nylon loop sewn to sail just above the baton.

I can not see what it does, so have removed it as I do not want it causing the main to get hung up.

Any ideas of it's purpose?

Paul, not sure about the attachment to the 3rd batten but have a look at this photo. Is this what your noticing?

It may be this top sail line.

This line is on the Port side of the sail the next baton bellow the Square Top Head rigging which is on the the Starboard side of the sail.

Cheers I have been trying to figure this out for ages. I was given a bum steer by another skipper.
