I did my own genset install, a Paguro 8.5Kva. The price you were quoted sounds alot, you can get the 8500 for about half that
https://www.advanceyacht.co.uk/1500-...uro-generators can't comment on parts as its been working fine.
I went for this model as its a 1500rpm engine and should last longer and is quieter than a 3000rpm unit. Capacity is just fine.
I didn't order the bimini as at the time there was not a window in the top to see the rig and I didn't like that. Lagoon have now installed one and I will order the factory bimini as it will be much easier to just add the factory tent/clears.
I also installed my own washing machine, a Samsung Eco Bubble 6kg, fits great.
Agree with Dave on the Inverter, I installed a 5000 watt unit.
Are you in Dubai?

Hi PW. Yes I am... are you?

In the last 12 months we have only done 41hours on the gen mainly due to my wifes phillips air fryer which we mainly use for evening meals when there is no sunlight.we fitted the quattro because it allows 2 inputs one from the gen which has main priority because it allows 4kva approx35amps then the shore power which is only 16amps.we have six sunpower x21 across the stern of the boat which gives extra sun and rain protection a great bonus and 4 flexible solar panels 2x100 plus2x120. We run 3 victron 150/75 solar controllers which are all monitored buy a victron color screen.the quattro also has a 220 amp battery charger.we only have 720amp battery pack which we are upgrading to 1500amp.we have a large enough battery charger and solar to control this amount. I would only like a 6-7kva gen if i was doing it again.when we first started sailing the factory solar was not big enough the run the fridges and freezer both chart plotters, auto pilot and instruments and would set off the battery alarm so you need something extra.i would have all electric winches their brilliant it really makes single handed sail really easy and my wife can handle all the lines without any stress it is not the cost of the winches alone but all the wiring and circuit breakers which is a big job to retro fit we would strongly recommend having them fitted it really is a great option. We have a 45kg ultra anchor and a chain counter which is the best thing for peace of mind.We have the teak floor in the rear cockpit and bathrooms. The solar is only 12 volt if you would like to talk to me direct i can email you my number Attachment 140667Attachment 140668Attachment 140669Attachment 140670Attachment 140671

Hi all,
I have a question about solar. So what difference would it make if I got 24v solar panels? I got a quote from Victron in Dubai and they included Mono Crystalline Cells 350Wp 24v
When I asked the guy why 24v solar panels, his response was "The solar charge controller MPPT 150/60-MC4 (12/24/36/48V-60A) is auto voltage selector option, so it doesn’t depend upon the panel’s voltage.
It is compatible to charge your 12v battery bank system."
What does that mean? Is it OK? The panel is around 125 Euros.

They are OK, no problem. The MPPT controller takes care and transforms the incoming higher Voltage and lower Amps into lower output Voltage and higher Amps. I have 60V panels for my 12V system and they work just great. And the price is great too. the system voltage in MPPT environments must be at least 4V below the panel string voltage to allow the regulator do his job. The MPPT 150/60 can take up to 150V on the input and transform it to the mentioned system voltages and delivers a maximum output of 60A. In your case maximum Wattage in 12V system around 830W (13.8V * 60A). It is good for 2 panels oriented perpendicular to the sun, you can connect 3 panels flat on the roof, but then it will cut the output during high noon for some time. Due to flat mounting and heat development on the panels, you have a loss of 20..30%, so 1050Wp will be around 800W effective. The controller can handle this.
Also keep an eye on mechanical resistance (mine are 5400 Pa according IEC 61215) and chemical resistance in salt environment (IEC 61701), have also a 25 year warranty for power output to 87%.

Re: Just signed on a new 450s!
I didnt realise Victron made a 350W panel but keep in mind their panels are 72cell therfore large compared to a more efficient 60 cell panel. But efficiency comes at a price

Victron does not make panels themselves, they re-brand some or sell some together with their electronics as far as I know.
24V Voc panels would be like 40ish cells, 72 cells are more like 36V Vmp / 45V Voc

Hi,
Do you have a list of your final electric setup? Just to compare and see if I am headed in the right direction. Did you get them from Dubai?
Thanks!!!

Dave, please find attached the pictures from the L450F salon in Cannes. Still looks like the same design as in 2016...

Best visit the boat early next month and have a chat. Different needs and cruising plans effect your final decision and you may not need to rush your final setup

Re: Just signed on a new 450s!
Is the 11kVa Onan generator necessary to run the Cruisair AC (48.000BTU) which Lagoon sells? Or would the 4 kVa Onan be strong / good enough to run just one AC - nor for cooling only but for heating too?
Lagoon could not answer this questions, they told me to go for the 11 kVa, but I like the smaler generator more as it is only half the weight and the fuel consumption ist much less. And it is about 6000 USD cheaper.
Does anyone of you have a 4kVa genset running with the Cruisair AC?
Thank you!

You will be fine if you run only one of the four A/C. However, you cannot run all of them together, even two may be possible for some time - turn off the water heater when doing so, it takes 1200W, also turn off the battery chargers, they will swallow another 1200W - 1500W..
I have a LFP battery and solar with a 5000W inverter an can run one of the four A/C for some time even on solar alone with the inverter. (solar is 5 panels, each 330Wp, Victron smartsolar 150/100 controller, output 80...100A)
I find it more efficient to heat the salon with a dyson heater/fan, it takes 2kW and heats up pretty quickly.

Hi,
I am getting a Paguro 8.5KVA generator I am told by my dealer that it is more than enough to handle the load of the A/Cs, Washing Machine and Watermaker...

Re: Just signed on a new 450s!
The washing machine is a non-issue, she is pretty small and takes very little energy, can be run easy on inverter. The Lagoon factory installed water maker is a 12V/220V Dessalator 100 DUO unit, so you can run it straight on battery too without running the generator, it takes around 70A DC.
The highest power consumption is on the A/C units, water heater, battery charger. The A/C units have a variable power draft and are not easy to estimate, they turn on and off frequently, usually they draw around 1200..1500W each when fully under load and have a soft start built in.
So worst case will be 6000W for A/C, 1200W for water heater, 1500W battery charger, 1000W water maker, 600..800W washing machine , a
8.5kVA can be OK, if you not turn on everything at the same time, with the 11kVA ONAN you can go almost all-in.
But usually you will not have all the gadgets running at the same time.
We even do not need the generator at all, with the Lithium batteries and a large solar installation we make daily 100..150l fresh water (1h .. 1.5h), we use the washing machine frequently at anchorages and we run one A/C in the evening for one hour or sometimes longer to cool down the master cabin. We also have a electric galley with induction hobs and a convection oven for cooking. We generate around 6-8kWh Energy daily and run also 2 fridges and one freezer on that amount. We have the 11kVA Onan from the factory, but besides a test run for few minutes we have not used it once during the whole sail season.
A 4kVA generator as a backup source can be sufficient if the rest of your electric system is able to cope with your demands and can compensate peak power drafts e.g. by the power assist function.

Re: Just signed on a new 450s!
Hi CNB, I have a feeling you may well have all the power requirements on board in a spreadsheet somewhere?
If you do, would you share? I do love a spreadsheet.
