Just signed on a new 450s!
My 220v motor capacitor just failed (at about 200hours). I didn’t realize it was a common problem. Suggest a few spares (maybe not necessary if just the DC model?) thread;

Re: Just signed on a new 450s!
Hi guys, can anyone help?
We have dark orange water from our hot water side.
The Lagoon has 2 methods of heating water (engine and 240v coil). Both are causing dark orange water.
Our broker and Lagoon will not cover this under warranty and it’s a €1,000 part so I’m asking for ideas or advice from those that this may have happened to before?
The water heater is 7 months old and has never been run dry as we live onboard. Our cold water side has no issues.
Cheers

Re: Just signed on a new 450s!
Not sure why it’s going orange Dave but on our previous boat the calorifier failed after 8 months and Prestige, (Beneteau), replaced it with no quibble.
It turned out that the element had dissolved and was a bit like a two season old anode...crumbly and fizzing away - but the water was not discoloured.
I guess you need to have a good look inside the unit which is pretty easy if you have the correct wrench...but should be easier to find stateside.
Surely your dealer should be getting involved and helping to fix this?

These are the types of things that scare me as someone with a new hull on order. We knowingly accept the depreciation hit with the belief the manufacturer is behind us (at least for the stated warranty period.)
I can't image what would fail at 7 months (sans owner error) that wouldn't be covered under warranty...NO questions asked. With the limited (read as virtually non-existent) communication between owner and manufacturer, I hope your dealer steps up with a remedy.

I assume this discoloration occurs on all hot water taps in boat.
I see two main sources for discoloration.
1: leak from engine coolant liquid from heat ex-changer into hot water heater tank.
2: Contamination coming from the heater tank and element itself.
You can check the coolant level on the Port engine, it would be a simple matter to disconnect the coolant feed from the engine at the hot water tank and feed it back to it's self. Then completely flush out tank if still discolored contamination coming from the hot water Tank.
Also as suggested Pull the mains heater element out and check it's condition. (split / corroded). Good luck.

Re: Just signed on a new 450s!
In addition to above it could be the water source as well. That is between tank and water heater, is it same from both water tanks and is the coloured water still hot?
Take of the input hose to the heater, if it's brown then the heater is ok and problem is upstream.

Re: Just signed on a new 450s!
Hi Dave,
Unfortunately I have no way of helping you with the orange water. I am curious though which excuse your broker(dealer?) and Lagoon use for not fixing your issue. I heard more stories about Lagoon failing to uphold warranty agreements. We are awaiting our 450F in August '18 and have a relative small window (1, max 2 years) for travelling and lack of factory support really starts to be a concern, since we don't want to be facing repairs which should be fixed under warranty. Moreover this was the sole reason to buy new instead of an used (bigger) boat.
Also, I understand from this thread you are still using the original lead-acid batteries with 3x333W solar panels. How is that working out for you? Is your setup sufficient for your use or are you wishing/planning for more solar or bigger battery bank?
Good luck with the orange water!
Cheers!

Dave,
Not sure what brand water heater you have but Cotemar did a good post on orange/brown water issues for our FP Helia 44s and isotemp water heaters.
The post is under the FP sub form, topic is
Helia 44: Plumbing & Water Heater
Post #14. He has pics as well in the post. Perhaps you have a similar issue.
Sorry I didn’t post the link, I can’t figure out how to copy a post link in the CF app.

Re: Just signed on a new 450s!
Thanks for all the help guys!
 our cold water
 our hot water
Yes, it’s from all taps.
No, our coolant level has not dropped.
Today, I’ll drain the tank and see if I can remove the element.
It’s very difficult when you’re living on the boat to assess problems with the hot water as we need to run the engines now and then to move the boat and of course we need hot water each day. But my gut instinct is the element is corroded...
Will keep you updated.

Re: Just signed on a new 450s!
Cheers Boom23.
As Lagoon decided to leave this up to me, I now find myself in Anguilla needing a 54mm socket. Good luck with that!
There’s also no valves to stop the cold water going to the tank or a means of draining the tank.
Question: is it safe to remove the engine heating pipes from the tank or is there pressure in that system? Obviously the engine is NOT running.

Hi Dave, I can see the valve to drain the tank in your first picture. At the cold water input. It's the same on my L440 except I have a hose at the ouput that goes .. not far enough to reach the bilge. But it does drain the tank. You just need to shut off the water pressure pump, open all head faucets, and then drain the tank. good luck.

I would be adding an in line shut off valve in the cold water line when apart.
The tank should be able to be drained by the activation of the relief valve.
If it is only 7 months old why is it not covered by warranty from Quick if not Lagoon/Broker?
What has been there response?
