Wow! So excited for you! Check out how easy it would be to run 4 leads down through the stainless support for 2 solar panels on the sport top. Click image for larger version

Here you go. Each of the 4 stainless supports are drilled each end, however the lower end is only 10mm.

Then once out the bottom of the support you're into the bridge void where the next challenge of routing to the batteries begins. But I think it's definitely worth the effort for at least an extra 300w.

The aft side of the Bimini is plenty big enough for a good sized panel or 2.Click image for larger version

Re: Just signed on a new 450s!

Here's a few mast shots showing the new mast head light (yes, I did find the first one I bought whilst unpacking today). The Aluminium sheeves arrived today too so once they are installed we can step the mast.

Re: Just signed on a new 450s!

Dave, did you have to drill that hole in the underside of the Bimini? Or did that have a cover over it? I would think it would be pretty easy to enlarge the hole in the bottom of the support. I would also think you may be able to use just one support for everything, hopefully.

Glad to see you are changing the sheaves.

It really is crazy how much work you still have in front of you after buying a new boat. I think its worth it, you'll really know her inside out.

I wish I was closer I would love to help.

Thanks for keeping us in the loop.

Re: Just signed on a new 450s!

How interesting. Your Sport top if i see it currently has a Hatch plus a sliding window? Mine just has the slider. So i was thinking 2 more 325 watt panels in the big open area I have.
Thanks for the photos! I am hoping i dont have to lift the roof off to get a whole drilled through the plate on the bottom of the support, (per your photo) as that hole may not be big enough, to pull 4 wire leads through!
What number haul is your boat? Mine was #6 i am amazed at the changes they have made!
Did you get rhe helm gate?

There's pre drilled 100mm access holes with plastic covers for fitting all the bimini supports so easy access for cables.

If I could drill out the port aft support to bigger than 10mm I would but unfortunately it will have to wait. I think 2x cables without the fittings would fit thru there so all you'll need to do is remove the access panel in the cockpit ceiling and drill centre of the 3 bolts to meet up with the 10mm hole in the support.

I did drill 2x 8mm holes under the water line yesterday which just seemed wrong but now we have underwater lights! I'll wire them straight into the curtesy (small round step) lights today so we can sail switch them on/off.

We have unpacked almost everything and should finish today. There really is a surprising amount of storage in the galley and saloon (obviously not enough for all the crap Hayley has bought over the last 6 months tho) so luckily we can take some stuff back to the UK tomorrow.

One problem we have is the wrong water maker arrived. They sent the full version instead of the modular but Robin Marine think they can still fit it under the starboard floor which is what I want anyway.

The only work that's been done on the boat since we arrived on Thursday is to fit the mast head light. There are about 3 cats being launched every week just by YCS and they are flat out! I can't praise Thomas at YCS enough and would fully recommend anyone to use him to commission their boat. He will be doing the CC, mast, all rigging and launch and they can do it all with their eyes shut. He's been good enough to leave us the keys so we can work onboard again today (Saturday - the French do not work weekends).

Robin Marine will complete the WM and genny next week and we have a plan to launch by Friday when we will move on board right away. Then sea trials, handover, provision, wait on weather and head for Gib!

We are not doing any of the electrical or solar install in France now. This is the worlds busiest port for handing over cats and imo not the place to get work done on your pride and joy. There's another 3/4 boats behind yours every week so these guys are on deadlines. They also don't want or need the work so prices are very expensive. I've seen Robin Marine's work and it's very good but we couldn't agree on a price and were not even in the same ball park. The quotes I've had from Gibralta are competitive and seem similar to what I've read people paid on here so I'll sail with all the kit and install it there.

Ok, must dash, got some graft to do today but I'll try to launch the drone and get some aerials before we leave.

The area that the sliding window goes into is a fixed window. Basically, it's clear the whole way across the center of the Bimini.

No, I didn't get the helm get but I think maybe I should have? I'll use some webbing from hand rail to hand rail and strap people in if it's bad weather tho.

The factory sent my dealer a helm gate. Damaged in shipping but looking at it gives me some questions if i really want it installed. Guess i need to talk to some owners that have it. Plus it wasnt ready for production when my boat was made. So not sure about retro fit. I have ordered 2 more 325w panels. Will give me 7 - 5 is actually great. But with that free space on my sports top which you caused me to realize i should be using the space. I think tthe hole in the plate on the support needs to be bigger for 4 cables plus to give space for no wear on cable.
Cheers

Re: Just signed on a new 450s!

Dave are your Pushpits standard Lagoon or your mod? They are quite different to mine and look like they provide improved hand holds. I had ordered the helm gate as part of the upgrade package but it never arrived. The dealer told me Lagoon had dropped it as an option by the time my boat was built (#7). The one I saw at a boat show didn't impress me much.

The aft rails are very different, better but still not right. Still the wrong height for our BBQ (imo) and not secure enough. I've not changed a thing yet. Here's my plans to change it all completely in Gibralta.
