Code 0 dimensions for 450 Sportop & Cost Estimates

Hi

I am getting close to placing an order for a new 450 SporTop.

The Code 0 pricing is an eye watering €13,578 vs 8200 on the Flybridge version. Even the Code 0 rig is more expensive.

Can anybody explain the possible reason for the price disparity - the mast height on the Sportop is shorter do I would have thought a smaller sail area.

I will probably buy my Code 0 aftermarket. To get some quotes on this, I will need some sail dimensions.

What are these for a Code 0?

I suspect as a minimum I will need the J and I. Can anyone help me with these for the Sportop please?

Any pricing on aftermarket a Code 0 and/or a Parasail on a 450 f or 421 would help me to.

Finally, recommendations on aftermarket sail makers who understand cats, particularly Lagoon.

Thanks
Anthony

Code 0 dimensions for 450 Sportop & Cost Estimates

We did the same comparison a few yrs back when I purchased our 450. It was far cheaper to purchase after market. We chose a UK Sails code 0. I did however take Lagoons option for the bow sprit as otherwise there is a lot of fitup work and I determined that if i did a DIY it would cost the about the same but less hassle.

I have no idea why the cost delta between the S and F. Surely your Lagoon agent can advise you?

Re: Code 0 dimensions for 450 Sportop & Cost Estimates

Hi Anthony. Quick disclaimer: I have absolutely no financial interest in my recommendation. We own a Fountaine Pajot Saba 50 and will soon be buying a Wingaker. We have done tons of research about this sail as well as sailing our boat with our Code 0. Take a look at our website www.ladyroslyn.com or join FB Catamaran LadyRoslyn if you want to learn a bit more about this amazing sail. Contact me if you want to know how we are buying ours. Cheers Nic

When i priced up the 42 it included all the hardware and extra winch, clutch sheets etc but to get accurate answers i don't think many of the agents even know what is in the options on the list , i think Lagoon( and others) do this to maxout the profits on extras, or discourage buyers from taking certain options so they can just build boats. but look at some of the other options Cost of TV, cost of washing machine seems theses could be installed for a quarter of the option price list.

Love the Wingaker on my L450. Search YouTube for Lagoon 450 and Wingaker to see it in action.

Re: Code 0 dimensions for 450 Sportop & Cost Estimates

Anthony where are you picking up your boat? In La Rochelle I was told EUR5.6k for the code zero, 15k for a 13.5kva (to big I think) genset and 180l/h Watermaker for 11k.

I would also try and avoid the Lagoon supplied inverter and go for a 3kva Victron as it can be used to charge lithium batteries (has customizable charge profile, battery temp and voltage wires) if you ever want to go that way.

Fitting a furling boom at the time of masting would also give big savings vs doing it afterwards.

I would be interested in what you find out.

Hi Houston 450. Here is the brochure we have for the Wingaker. I don't know what the price or exact size you would need for one of these sails for the Lagoon 450. Best to use the email address on the brochure to contact Lothar Weber. I do know that there are a lot of Wingakers flying on Lagoons (see YouTube) and that he has done a lot of deliveries of new Lagoons with their owners from La Rochelle to Gibraltar or the Med and help people set-up their new Wingakers. Our Saba 50 is in Northern Italy and when we buy our Wingaker he will personally be involved in the set-up. Fantastic customer service and lots of owners out there raving about this sail.

Re: Code 0 dimensions for 450 Sportop & Cost Estimates

Hi Houston & Anthony.

I'm interested to know if you got exact pricing for the Wingaker for the L450 and how does it compare to the price for a Parasailor. I understand that the Parasailor has to be quoted larger because of power loss due to the slot opening on both top and bottom of the sail versus Wingaker which has only the bottom slot. I would be interested to hear your research and what the size & price comparisons are as well as what your thoughts are on having to handle a bigger sail if you choose the Parasailor over an easier to manage Wingaker.

Cheers
Nic

Re: Code 0 dimensions for 450 Sportop & Cost Estimates

Don't forget cost of sheets, guys, blocks and shakles... Perhaps a halyard. Probably 1K or more has to be added to the price of the Spinnaker, Wingaker or Parasail.

We have choosen the 155m2 Wingaker because it seems to be better in light winds than the larger one. But I have no direct comparison. Parasailor is more expensive.

Hi Ulstue. Any chance you could post some pictures on this thread of your Wingaker flying? Would be great to see the 155m2 on and also what colours you chose. I believe that you can totally customise the colour pattern and design so we are interested to see examples. Thanks.

As far as I can remember, one can choose from two or three two-color designs with a large color range.

Thanks for posting pictures. Great colour sail you have chosen. We love the way that this is the only sail you need when sailing downwind. No main up and no boom danger from a jybe.
