Catamaran vs Trawler

We are looking for our retirement boat and are planning to cruise the Bahamas and go back and forth to Florida. In that there seems to be a lot of shallow water around some of the islands, would a catamaran with a shallower draft allow more cruising opportunities than a typical trawler with say a 4' draft?

Thank you for any feedback!!

If your primary goal is the Bahamas then any shoal draft boat of under 6ft would work, of coarse 4.5 ft draft would be better. Your question is based on draft only. There is a world of difference between a trawler and a sailing cat. The advantage of a cat whether it be sailing or motor cat is less draft and stability while at sea.

The disadvantage of a wide boat in the Bahamas restrict were you can go in a Marina. Many marina slips are will not accomidate a wide boat, and you will offten pay extra for an end slip or a wide slip.

A trawler in open seas is like a cork and will only be comfortabe in mild seas.

There is always a space to put a cat, if it is normal size, when you pass 100f then .......
To stay at anchor on a cat, is like having your own little island,
Good luck.
