If your primary goal is the Bahamas then any shoal draft boat of under 6ft would work
, of coarse 4.5 ft draft would be better. Your question is based on draft only. There is a world of difference between a trawler and a sailing cat. The advantage of a cat whether it be sailing or motor
cat is less draft and stability while at sea.
The disadvantage of a wide boat in the Bahamas restrict were you can go in a Marina. Many marina slips are will not accomidate a wide boat, and you will offten pay extra for an end slip or a wide slip.
A trawler in open seas is like a cork and will only be comfortabe in mild seas.
