If your primary goal is the Bahamas then any shoal draft boat of under 6ft would
work, of coarse 4.5 ft draft would be better. Your question is based on draft only. There is a world of difference between a trawler and a sailing cat. The advantage of a cat whether it be sailing or
motor cat is less draft and stability while at sea.
The disadvantage of a wide boat in the Bahamas restrict were you can go in a Marina. Many marina slips are will not accomidate a wide boat, and you will offten pay extra for an end slip or a wide slip.
A trawler in open seas is like a cork and will only be comfortabe in mild seas.
