Atoll's Asian Adventure

well we finally arrived in pattaya, thailand after a fairly fast trip from Singapore with fuel stops in tioman island Malaysia and koh samui to check into Thailand.

looks like just in time as the north east monsoon is due to start blowing next week making the shallow south china sea and gulf of thailand very rough.

the delivery voyage started in Valencia spain in mid augustwhen the new owner purchased the 2009 lagoon 440 catamaran.

as the boat was usa flagged and had overstayed its period of EU tax exemption, and was due to be shipped out of the EU.
it was decided prudent to take it out of EU waters, and re import it before it went on the ship from palma de Mallorca.

so a quick trip to Algeria was the first part of the delivery, this took about 4 days ,checking back in to the eu in Cartagena.
then another quick run up to palma, all went fine till just off Alicante where the port engine decided to break its engine mounts!

this we managed to get fixed over the weekend, then carried onto palma, where the cat sat for a month at royal club nautico awaiting shipping by sevenstar shipping to Singapore.

I flew into Singapore to meet the ship on the 19th,launched on the 21st and left midnight on the 23rd to get the tide through the straits.

we had to anchor for final clearance at the changi quarantine anchorage for about an hour, then proceeded to the straights.......very busy night with lots of large vessels anchored, and a ship passing roughly every 5 miniutes for most of the night until we turned north at daylight.

had a fairly uneventful trip up to pattaya, apart from thousands of small vessels squid fishing, debris in the water and many fish traps.
only had to stop twice to remove plastic from the props!

I also managed to meet up with cf members "Emerald sea" in Singapore at SAF yacht club marina where we moored up and "Captainbri" in pattaya who were great sources of local info, unfortunately missed "ex-calif".,....but some people have to work in proper jobs

here are a few photos of the 1500miles I sailed "storm dancer" on the delivery

That looks like a nice big boat for any cruise.

Thanks for posting the photos, which I found interesting to see.

Can you give us some idea of what it cost to ship that boat from Spain to Singapore?? I imagine it was a few boat bucks!

it was hard to beat our cook!......roast dinner the second night out of Singapore!

though we had to hand steer the last 24hours when the auto pilot died ......so it was quite a tough trip....not being all able to sit down for dinner at the same time

when you consider the alternatives, which would have been via the red sea and gulf of aden uninsured,or the wrong way via the cape of good hope.
or a fairly long hike across the atlantic and pacific oceans.

the delivery fee would have easily cost $30k plus the ware and tare on a nearly new boat.......60k is actually not too bad for a bit of piece of mind, and the boat arriving in good condition.
