450: Asymmetrical Spinaker Gear

Does anyone know exactly what you get when selecting the “Asymetrical Spinaker Gear” option on a new 2018 450F? At $2195 it clearly does not include the Spinaker itself. Bow pad eyes? Blocks (how many)? Spinaker pole (not needed)? Sheets/lines?

Considering this option so I can fly a Wingaker or Parasail.

Good question. I'm assuming 2 winches, and the halyard.
Unlikely any sheet, they have to get bought with the sail.
Regarding the pad eye, probably, but as some have reported, best to be reinforced. No blocks would be my take. The pole is in theory not included, this is why you have 2 options to select from. Considering the one with the pole is ~2.5ke more, and get you a pole which may not be optimal, probably not the best option, especially if you plan to get boat on charter. But if you want a genaker from day one and cannot install a custom pole yourself, then you would need the expensive option.

Assume the minimum is included. The winches instal is what you need. The rest can/have to be added later.

Get it all confirmed with your dealer, and check recent boats.

$2195 won't buy you one winch, never mind two, so it can't be that.

Possibly the Bowsprit if its Asym gear. But Wingaker dosn't NEED that.

I'd recommend going after market anyway with all that. I'm just about to add a Wingaker to a 450 F, and looks like it will be Sail cost, + approx $1100 in lines blocks and bits. (Uses the existing Helm winches)

L450 uses the Jib winches for spinnaker sheets.

To be clear this is true for the 450F but not the S which requires two extra winches.

Hi,
In the prosess of fitting out a L450S to be delivered in April '18.
Asked my seller(in Croatia) and he told me the difference between Asymetrical and Code 0 gear, is the furling drum on Code 0.
Not totally convinced so I shall phone him Monday and get the correct details.
I still wonder about the two winches...

Makes sense that the two additional winches needed for the 450S are included. Wondering if padeyes and blocks are included at the bows (downhauls) and midship (sheets), and are there one or two midship?

I opted for the ‘spinnaker pack’ which included; 2x Harken 60 winches, 2x deck fixings plus blocks and the bow sprit.

If so I understand the guy who somewhere on a forum suggested that it was cheaper to by from Lagoon than retrofit. One 60 winch is EUR 2500,-

Tosk you require these two winches on the S for a spi or code 0. On the F the flybridge configuration allows the sheets to be redirected to the main winches.

Looks like hell of an expensive "Ring stanchion SE" and "Block SO57D"

I believe (believed) that the code 0 option included the furler, which isn't included in the code0 sail itself, and goes around 2.5-3Keuros (facnor).

But not sure what to believe anymore...

HI,

Nothing is cheap... We put on a North Sail G2, with a Harken top down furler, Forespar bow sprit, Dyneema bobstays, two new clutches for the endless furling line, clutch on the bow sprit for easy access to the furling reel, two sheets for the G2, triple blocks to bring the furling line along the same track as the jib furling line, another triple block in the coach roof, and a tension bungee to assist in providing tension on both sides of the furling line for single handed furling... So all in, this is about $20k including labour....

It is about 160 sq metres and is 1.5 oz... good to around 15 kts... at 15kts with wind at 140ish and mild seas, we get about 11 kts...

so not any cheaper than a Wingaker....

Quick update on the different options:
Asymetric gear is single halyard(rules out top-down furler due to higher tension on halyard), pad-eye for sheet-blocks(no blocks), 2 x winches and bowsprit with shrouds.

Tosk68, have been running top down furling on assys for a number of years and a 2 to 1 halyard is not required. Sufficient tension for furling can be applied with a winch.
2 to 1 halyard is only required to get upwind with code 0 but 2 to 1 tack line works just as well....
