Re: Anyone Want to Share Their Experiences With Lagoon's High Booms?

impi, trust me, I know it's the time. But it's just like marriage, just when you think you've found the love of your life, a voluptuous redhead comes along the corner and makes you think once again!

LOL ... but in the meantime you miss the ride ... with old age comes ... hmmm ... Viagra ... and by then you may be sorry to have missed doing what you enjoy in your youth ...

There will always be a better yacht ... no matter what you buy !!!

I know ... really sucks! We look after the boat so well and never skimp on a service .... and still things go wrong.

Anyway, today we got the full sails up and sorted following hurricane season ... I thought about this post of MehmetCan as I was up in the sail bag sorting out ropes etc.

The BVI's are getting BUSY !!!

Seems there's some possible truth into inbuilt defects giving the profits back via sales of spares.

Changes in models gives support to the Theory.....

Really hope you get it sorted and it stays that way.

Re: Anyone Want to Share Their Experiences With Lagoon's High Booms?

Just took the 560 down from Gib to Gran Canaria. It was a good test for us. Quite varied conditions.

No issues to report in relation to the high boom.
High pilot position is an instant cure for sea sickness.

- We never got overpowered and mainly sailed with either 1 or 2 reefs in the main.
- We will definately investigate how to reef or bring the main down while going down wind. Invaluable.
- Issues with being unable to fly the main genoa with more than one reef in the main are a definate issue. May not have purchased the boat if we had known about this ?
- We found the rig very powerful off the wind. Hard to know when you are near the limit though. Recorded 12.8kn as a max speed but averaged about 8 over the trip.
- Only other issue was the slamming in confused seas. Sounded like hitting a submerged log every 2 or 3 mins ?? I guess you get used to it in the end ?

All in all an amazing boat and the benefits of flybridge Cat sailing far outweigh the downsides. We had 3 course meals every day with wine in stemed glasses. Need I say more.

Re: Anyone Want to Share Their Experiences With Lagoon's High Booms?

Good news, great trip.

I wonder what a riggers advise would be regarding the not running without the main scenario?

I've not come across this before....

Off to Caribbean soon?

Cheers

It was the guys who produced the rig that gave us the final decision in writing about the scenario.

So i wonder if they are concerned with panel strength or compression?

Not sure exactly. I have the wording on at home. I will post it. I think there is another thread detailing this on here somewhere ?

Re: Anyone Want to Share Their Experiences With Lagoon's High Booms?

OK that would be good, we've discussed it a bit but i haven't seen a specific posting. I could more understand it where there are 3 wires supporting however with 5 and double spreaders i'm not quite understanding it.

Punching to windward causing high loads yes but off the breeze without great cyclical/pumping loads.............

Look forward to reading it if it can be posted, cheers Frank
