450: 440 & 450 tender size

Hi All
Pam and I have pretty much decided that our next boat will be a 440 or 450. We currently own a 42 foot ex cray fishing boat in Western Australia and cruise up and down the coast burning diesel which has been fantastic but are setting our sights on buying a cat and traveling further. No doubt buying over seas and sailing back. I have owned boats most of my life and chartered several cats on the east coast.
Having cruised around we appreciate the value of the tender. In my opinion one of the most important options on a boat.
My question is
What is the max length tender that will fit on the L440 and L450
What weight will the standard davits hold and can they be modified.

Give consideration to a Spirited ripple cat tender around 3.6m size.

Light, requiring low hp , durable and can be customised.

I'm not sure on the maximum, but I've seen a few with centre console dinks, around 15' with 30hp yammy on the back. Probably around 250kg all up. I think the davits may be rated around 250kg but I'm sure someone will have an accurate answer for you.

Many experienced catamaran crusers said it was a mistake to have a big heavy dinghy with their cat. Hard to launch from beach when tide goes out and very hard to drag high enough above tide safely to to leave alone beached...

Hopefully someone will have some details.
Im on my 3rd inflatable, 2 Cheepie's, and the thundercat has several patches but a bit over inflatables and will eventually end up in the Kimberley or north Australia. Crocs, oysters and inflatables don't mix
I have looked at poly boats but most are too heavy or not what im looking for. Whalys are not bad and would love the polycraft 4.1 but heavy and large.
A large tinny would be great, thus the question. How large and heavy can you go....

I do understand
we currently have a 4.1 ceaser thundercat with a 50hp Yamaha which is about 200kg that we drag around (awesome fun and fast) but not very fuel efficient or what we would be looking for in a cruising tender.
Weight is the big question.
What are peoples opinion on light 2 strokes verses fuel efficient 4 strokes.
We are really looking for a tender large enough to explore rivers that you can not get a cat into.

A foam built Spirited ripple tender is very light, 85kg for the 4.2 and 41kg for the 3.6. Both would be fast and fuel efficient and able to explore the rivers in the Kimberlies. In addition somewhat crocodile proof. The light weights mean 30hp would perform on a 4.2.

Ist is a 4.2 and 3.6 on top of car.

We have a L450 and l have a Brig 340 which is 3.40 mts and as the photo taken from up the mast shows you don't have a lot of room left.

PS - She has been a GREAT tender.

I visited the Lagoon factory and the label clearly states Max Loading capacity is 250 kgs.

The biggest dinghy that I had on a chartered L450 was 3.90M. But that must then be very well lashed, otherwise the hull of the dinghy swings against the side of the steps at the sterns and damaging the gelcoat. But if one binds it good, it is ok. If one does not bother that the space on the stern platforms is narrower, it is possibly more than four meters. Then depends on the hull shape of the Dinghy to fit over the sterns. May be, there are other problems then.

Bullfrog Tenders are rigid and built like a tank with an aluminum hull. see www.bullfrogboats.com for more info. We have the 10' tender with a 15hp Tohatsu 4 stroke and hydraulic davits by "Lester Davits" out of Tampa Florida. Good combination on our 42' GB Trawler.

L450 davits are rated for 212kg/467lbs per davit, as stated on the certification plate. This is a static weight. You then can multiply that by two and then consider the dynamic factors for heave/surge etc i.e. 1.3 as a minimum. Width wise you can fit in 3.5m long dingy comfortably, any longer and you need to consider some issues.

I want TOT's tender 😜 it looks really cool, but I guess at around 250kg pretty difficult to pull up on the beach, which I guess might be an issue for some, and others not so much. It probably depends on your cruising grounds. Obviously if you are just using it from mothership to dock, or to beaches you can anchor the dinghy just off the beach, or on the beach it's not a huge issue (or if you have a few strong guys to drag it up the beach)
I think I'll wait for the next, bigger cat before indulging though (but I still want it) 🙈

what about Zodiac Yachtline? Looks pretty & solid. Someone puts up to 50hp...if one could accomodate on the cat and handle it becomes more than a tender
