39 post leak

I have searched for the origin of this leak and cannot see where is to coming from. Has anyone had this issue?

The leak is the front window post towards starboard side.

Re: 39 post leak

My guess would be that it is something to do with the bedding compound of one or both of the windows. What have you tried so far?

You might try putting some tape around the edge of the windows on the outside temporarily to see if the leaks stop. I've used the tape used to seal up shrink wrap. If there is exposed bedding compound you might consider waxing or otherwise doing something to prevent the bedding compound from being pulled up when you eventually remove the tape.

Leaks like this are a real pain. It is just as likely that the water is coming in elsewhere and traveling along a channel.

You might seek out owners of similar boats if it is any sort of production boat. If you are having this problem, others likely have as well or may now how to remove the cover and headliner. If the manufacturer is still around they may be able to help as well.

Good luck,
Harry

Re: 39 post leak

Harry,

I did remove the entire starboard side headliner....looking for a sign. I found no telltales. I put a water hose directly into the mast base and directly on the windows and trim and also no leaks found before reinstalling headliner.

I also removed the trim board that holds the window shades....nothing there.

I removed sealer in between windows and resealed with silka 295uv. I'll let you know if this works.

thanks for the reply

Are you sure it's not condensation due to different temperature inside and outside?
Especially if you are cooking or heating with Propane that can be an issue...
Of course this applies only if you are in a cooler climate zone.

Re: 39 post leak

One technique that I have seen recommended for chasing water along interior chases but I have not had a lot of success with is to dust areas with talc or flour. The leak will leave tracks in the talc the next time they occur.

I have a device like this that has also been useful. I don’t think this is the model i have but it was about this price.

Hi Scott, did you solve the issue? I have the same problem. Tried everything, now thinking it may be poorly sealed handrail that runs above that window?
