Re: 3 blade fixed recommendation for 2012 450F?
It turns out the fixed 2 blade props are 17x16. I had a couple of conversations with John and Frank and Johnnie's Prop Shop in Fort Lauderdale and decided to go with 3 blade 17x15 for more torque at the lower end.
The challenge now is to change these props in the water. I'm not too concerned about the changing (I dive and can do the job as long as I don't drop and lose hardware!) as much as I am about the loctite issue. New folding props come with a hardware that has a loctite pre-applied.
Any ideas?

Don't know about Yanmar but Volvo has you buying a new propbolt with preapplied loctite every time that you take one off to the tune of over $20. a bolt. I have had good luck using LOCTITE stick. https://www.amazon.com/Loctite-51153...H91SJDGYEXK8EB

I'd be cautious using red loctite on a propeller bolt. You will unlikely be able to remove it unless you can apply heat. Most use blue loctite. The tape 249 is probably easier to use underwater, or maybe 248 the blue wax stick.

The tape you mentioned is one I've not looked at while the 248 blue stick has come up in a couple of messages I've received. I'll look at both; thx!

Just for confirmation, my L450F dropped a prop when it was 2 months old. Found the prop, but the nut was gone.

I recently replaced a folding propeller with a 3 blade feathering propeller by Autostream. It is SS which I like on a SS shaft. Furthermore its pitch can be adjusted under water and even changed from RH to LH.

The problem with vicprop.com is that there is no setting to tell it the maximum diameter. So in its results it suggests props that are far to big to actually fit.

These fixed 3 will be fine for the next 3 years. Then I’ll revisit the folding arena. There are still lots of stories about increased maintenance, barnacles and other shells interfering with proper blade function, etc... We’ll see then if it’s worth the cost.

Re: 3 blade fixed recommendation for 2012 450F?
LeeV,
I have a 2106 450F with 3 blade folding props.
I can tell you that I am underwhelmed when it comes to close quarter maneuvering of the vessel.
It is fine when there is no wind and current. But even in mild wind or current, the props don't "bite" as hard as i would like and I always seem to need to give the vessel a heaver dose of throttle then I would like, to get the boat to maneuver.
I'm not sure you will be happy with the results after going though the time and money to do this.

I know the max rpms are 3000, the reduction is 1:2.32 and I believe the props rotate counter clockwise. With the 2 blade we needed lots of rpms to manouver. We'd like to install fixed 3 blades as we can use the bit of extra torque docking in current etc....
I've gotten a slew of different answers from prop dealers, so I thought I'd see if anybody here has installed 3 blade fixed on that combination and what size you used and where you found them.
Best regards,

What size and pitch are they? 17 x 16? You should try these 2 blade that I have! Stock is 17 x 16, which is why we dropped the pitch to 15 for the bite you mention.
