Re: 2019 Lagoon 460F ordered!

Hi Scott, congrats on your Lagoon 46! We also ordered one, delivery in Nov. and picking up in France, sailing back to Florida just as you’ve planned! I’ll be following this thread and any chatter here on the 46, but would also like to invite you and anyone else interested in the 46 to join the Lagoon 46 Owners Group on Facebook as an added forum. Just do a search and you will find it. Our group is really growing with a bunch of 46 owners already in the mix.... Meanwhile best of luck in your planning! It’s all very exciting!!!! 👍

I just did my 101 & 103 in St Pete with Intelligent Sailing School. All classes are 1 on 1. No loading 3-5 in a class BS, just you and the instructor. I would highly recommend Captain Stefan Gashus. Great guy!

PM me if you want specifics and congratulations on your new boat!!

Congratulations on your new toy! I just joined the FB forumn thanks for that. Very exciting now the 1000's of decisions and preparation. No affiliation with them but jimmygreen.com looks to be helpful at provisioning spares etc. Current plan is to buy a pallet of stuff and they will ship it right to the boat. Working with my dealer now to decide on watermaker from Lagoon or aftermarket as well as building the solar tower above tender aft and how many lithium batteries can we fit etc. Will be nice to physically see the 46 at the boat show">Miami boat show.

Re: 2019 Lagoon 460F ordered!

For anyone interested I have the complete 120 page options list for the 2019 Lagoon 46. I could not figure out how to link it here but PM me and I am happy to forward it to you, it's quite detailed.

110v or 220v?

Hello All,

I can't seem to find a solid answer on how this works. My plan it to be cruising everywhere will A/C, pumps, washer/dryer etc. work in most places? Does the 50/60hz make a big difference. Plan is to have a large lithium battery bank so is just using large battery chargers that accept any voltage to charge the batteries and then run A/C, etc. off of the inverter? The 220v option seems more flexible both in the availability of the power and the fact that Lagoon can install all of the appliances etc. at the factory because they only offer 220v dish washers, washers and dryer, microwave etc.

I need to confirm the voltage with the factory in the next few weeks. All advice always appreciated. Have a great New year - Scott

Re: 2019 Lagoon 460F ordered!

Hi Scott,

I’d give careful thought to the microwave and dishwasher. Do you really need either and are they worth €1000 each? They also take up a lot of space.

We went for 220v and the washing machine. Everything else we fitted ex factory.

I understand our wm won’t run on 60hz as the pump won’t like it but you can always run it on inverter. Our inverter was fitted ex factory and is Victron 5kva.

Air Con was also fitted ex factory and runs on both 50 and 60hz.

I think you should choose 110/220 based on where you think she’ll spend most of her life.

Happy new year

Re: 2019 Lagoon 460F ordered!

220V 50hz is probably the way to go except for North America and a couple of other countries. I would ask that all appliances, in particular the air conditioning be 50/60hz compatible on 220V. That way you can use an isolation transformer (say a Victron 7KVA) to plug into US shore power without fear of wiring issues and fiddling with adapters and hoping they work. The other appliances should run fine off a big inverter - say 3000W - 5000W. Your battery chargers should handle 110v - 240V 50/60 hz so that is not an issue. For hot water at the dock you can use 110V, it just takes 4 times longer to heat.

Schools. Im not sure what you are specifically looking for--general sailing technique or storm sailing or ? I would think that someone with some experience would want instruction for rough conditions and as I know, the best for that are the schools in Durban, So. Africa. If you have a little cash and a little time, fly there and get into the courses there which are deliberately conducted in harsh sea conditions.

When I was first learning to sail around 1973 in San Francisco, my courses had me on Lake Merced there. A new-found sailing friend said, no no, you cant learn anything there, come out with me which meant San Francisco bay in winter in conditions that not only scared the crap out of a new student but meant hard physical work to maneuver the boat. This proved to be the right kind of training and I never forgot it. Its what I recommend.

Re: 2019 Lagoon 460F ordered!

Would anyone have an idea of how high the engine compartment temperature gets? I was watching the video from David on Out Chasing Stars and he moved his battery bank from the engine compartment to the saloon for concerns the engine compartment temperature would kill lithium batteries. Would the compartment get above 140f/60c? I've read ABYC specs limit engine room temp to 50c for diesel but the temp can go above that if the engines are off. Lagoon puts lead acid batteries in the engine compartment standard and anything above 25c for lead acid is a death sentence for longevity. Curious if anyone has or would measure the temp.

In my opinion 220v is the only way to go. Less weight, small line size, and most of the world uses 220v except for the US and Brazil. For those areas using 110v, buy a pig-tail like the Hubble YQ230 www.hubble yq230.hubble yq230.

Are you saying that the Lagoon 46 will have its battery banks in the engine rooms?

Re: 2019 Lagoon 460F ordered!

This is their ridiculous design they introduce with the facelift of the Lagoon 40 (what is believed to be a successor of the 400S2, but is in fact a face lift of the 39, a 38ft 6in LOA, 22ft 2in BEAM), they moved the starter batteries from the bilge and I think the house batteries below the port berth to the engine rooms in the sugar scoops, including the breakers.

Seems consistent if they do it on the 46 too.
