2006/2007 Lagoon 440 Common Issues

Soon I will go to take a look to an used in good condition (owner version) lagoon 440, of course after the first visit I will call a surveyor to make a complete and detailed survey before making an offer

Does anyone know which are the most common issues and failures of the Lagoon 440 models ?
Could anyone share your experience?

Re: 2006/2007 Lagoon 440 common issues

First don't freak out when the survey finds de-tabbing of bulkheads. This is seen on pretty much every 440. After the boat has been lifted a few times, or a couple "firm" dockings and the tab separation occurs as Lagoon uses a very flexible putty. Ship is however still very solid so no worries there. We simply glassed ours in.
Most have Onan genets. Good but they spit impellers. We removed our impeller and put a March pump in the hull directly wired to the gen so no more impeller issues. Also mixing elbow needs replacing about every 800 hours.

If a 110v version wires are undersized but ok. If you are going to full time cruise you will upgrade batteries and charger/inverter. Think AGM and Outback.
Before 2008 there was some leaking of the egress hatches in the aft cabins.

Original sails, particularly the main, are fairly cheap and are only good for a few years of heavy sailing. Budget about 7k for new main

Some had windlass problems with the Quick windlass. Look for corrosion. Easy fix however.

All and all a great boat. Fast for it's wt. Very roomy. Our biggest dis-like is how noisy the cabin is from mico-movement of the lamination of the inside of the hull. We hear this can be fixed by pulling the laminate and re-appling with some thin foam cushion and 4200

MINOR:-
Hatches that have lost their memory of an erect position.

Mirrors in Heads that have de-silvered.

Tap ware that is de-chroming.

Crazing in curved house windows.

Grazes in furniture finish from being knocked when floorboards are lifted.

Thin roof lining on deckheads get patches of de-lamination.

MAJOR:-
Anchor roller connection to fore-beam is bolted into a track mounted slug on the underside. Ours were loose and the roller parted from the fore-beam in a strong blow.

Agree with JMPILOT they are a great boat for a production boat we stole ours and totally love our home, the boat is responsive when sailing, the vantage point/helm position is too popular as in everyone wants to sit there.

Handling one of these in close confines of a Marina with the steering locked central and only using engine power is an absolute dream.

One thing i'm considering though is to move the inside helm position to the aft cockpit near the sink, this would allow for safe single hand movement in mooring whether stern to (big in Europe) or coming alongside. To me this would be much more usable than inside the house.

Good luck hope the negotiations go well, you are in for a treat. Cheers Frank.

Re: 2006/2007 Lagoon 440 Common Issues

I am have problems with the VDO fresh water level sensor on my 2008 Lagoon not giving correct readings of the tank levels. On testing I found that the voltage at both the instrument and the switch was 9 V ?? Wondered if anyone had experienced this problem or had suggestions for a fix.

Hi, currently under contract on a 2007 440. Has anyone seen this issue? Cracked/sagging facade around fwd bulkhead in the fwd cabins? (See attached.). I can likely get a better image from the survey report in a few days.

This is a common issue with 440. Mine has a similar issue with the aft bulkhead. There is no structural issue as far as I see.

I know this is a few years old but hoping to get an update or thoughts of others w experience.

@Rich8oy- how did the survey come out?

I'm seeing a similar issue on the STB owners cabin side. Cracks in both forward/aft laminate/ply bulkheads (see pics). Thoughts?

How did you go with the boat? Were the bulkheads bad or just the veneer? Did you purchase it?
