Wandering Minstrel Snowbird seeks southbound deck.

Wandering Minstrel Snowbird seeks southbound deck.

As I did walk upon the strand of a cold Canadian lake,
the wind did howl as I did scowl to breast a large snowflake.
Oh cold white flakies - go away, and come again another day,
when I'm not here but drinking beer upon some tropic bay.

The geese were gathered in the bay, the ducks and drakes there too,
but not a boat, "that's all" they wrote: the wind it blew and blew.
Then suddenly they rose en mass into the wint'ry sky,
and I did watch the birds fly south and bad them all good bye.

The summer's gone, the boats are hauled, forlorn upon the hard,
and yet someplace a sun-kissed face hauls sail upon the yard.
I wish I were a snowbird too and take me far away;
to Florida, the Carib sea or even far Bombay

As I slouched home with wind aback from off the cold grey lake,
I thought of chills and heating bills - and then my heart did ache.
And then I thought, you sailor boy, no reason to be blue;
some south-bound sailor and his(her) boat needs such a crew as you

For you can cook and clean and fix a diesel too:
you've stood the graveyard watch before and you know what to do.
With huge Atlantic waves astern, that engine she kept running:
though running slow, with way maintained, we had no thought of broaching.

You're also wont to pay your way - no favours are required:
and a handy chap in many ways, Brit. engineer (retired).
And amiable chat - well you like that, and larnin' from a master:
'bout keel-boat sailin', navigation, keepin' from disaster.

In from the cold and dreary lake in front of my computer,
I pen this tale to all who sail down south in the near future.
Please take a break, do not forsake, and check-out my profile
And hopefulee together we'll flee to yonder sunny isle :-)

May your bilge be dry, your Spinny fly, and always have a fish to fry :-)

Rsvp, Nanki-Poo
