Re: Visit Papua New Guinea

I was going to post something positive about some parts of PNG, but maybe it's better to keep scaring people away until I do the trip?

I'd love to hear alternate (good views) of png but everything from local attitudes and government mayhem are detractors my friends talk about. I dont like to give png a bad name as I haven't been there but my buddies are pretty credible sources.

Re: Visit Papua New Guinea

i think the op has done a lot of trips there, and mainly goes to the louisades and solomons, wants $50 a day,so you should be fairly safe,as long as the missionaries dont try to convert you and stay away from macdonalds, cholestorol is a killer lol

I am so keen to get up to New Ireland. So far I have heard nothing but good feedback about this area of PNG. Nonetheless, if the bad reviews keep people away I won't be complaining!

Re: Visit Papua New Guinea

Been sailing PNG and Solomon for abut 18 years and in that time all I have lost is a pair of thongs. Mind you stay away from mainland PNG as you will loose a few things. In Solomon islands Western Province is the best place to hang out. Best advice is stay away from towns with beer sales.

Re: Visit Papua New Guinea

Between PNG and West Papua is possibly the last frontier for diving left.

One way to judge is by the small expedition vessels visiting the area.

From my reading I no longer excited by the Carribean anymore.

GBR/ Coral Sea, Pacific, PNG, West Papua and nearby Asia should keep any diver occupied for years.
