I recently did this delivery the other direction. Be ware the oil fields are a tricky place to sail through. I strongly recommend having AIS aboard to stay aware of the heavy ship traffic. And make certain you have an excellent radar reflector mounted aloft. Hate to admit it but we almost got run down by one of the rig tenders that blast around 24/7 at very high speeds. Temps near Texas can drop into the 40-50 so great weather gear">foul weather gear is key to your comfort. Chris L

I'm about to make the same trip. I'm on a Southern Cross 35 and I'm down in Ft. Myers beach right now. Maybe we can meet up and share plans when I make it up to Tampa. I'm single handing right now but I too am looking for crew. My final destination is Corpus Christi tho...

Re: Tampa/St Pete to Houston/Corpus TX

Hey 2Restless,

I'm in the Tampa area and want to gain experience in sailing. Would you be willing to take me under your wing and show me the ropes on this next voyage? I am extremely serious about this and can leave with you at the drop of a hat. I'm a young, healthy, adventurous, and creative individual. Take a look at my Couchsurfing profile, and you'll learn a bit more... Couchsurfing - Kyle Richardson

Unfortunately, I'm not experienced in sailing, but I've been wanting to learn this valuable skill. I'm a super quick learner and I'm very eager to learn from you as long as you're willing to share your knowledge.

I'm clean and courteous...definitely the type to keep things nice...very conscious of that kind of thing as I'm a tad OCD and very into mutual aide.

We could have a ton of fun, I really hope you have the time and energy to put into teaching me the ropes of the sailing world! I'm definitely a fun person to share the open sea with.

If either of you need any local knowledge from the Texas end, please PM me, and I'll give you my cell phone number.

As others said, a radar is pretty much a necessity. This time of year, you need to be VERY careful about weather. A norther as you approach the Texas coast will ruin your trip. I mean, you will get your butt kicked - especially in an OI 33.

Hey, are you still looking for a crew? I signed on to work with this guy named Codi and even booked a flight to Fort Myers on March 2, but the the trip fell through.

Here's a little about me. I'm a 29yo writer living in Portland. I've been working in advertising for the past 6 years, and have some time now between jobs. Here's a website with some of my professional work: MatthewMcCarron.com.

Here's my cell phone if you want to talk: 215-870-0843.

Thanks,

Matt
