Ahoy Sparkee, really cheap costs, if you need to ask then you cant afford the trip?
Charter boats charge $7,000 usd for 10 days on the water out here.
Costs on my boat are nil!
Depends on what you want to eat and the fuel we burn moving around, less than you spend at home?
Major cost is getting yourself here and then back home again!
Check out some pics at

My boat cost $150,000 usd, you get it for free!!! But you put in half of the costs for food and fuel and do most of the work? I go surfing about 10 hours a day!
Last 6 weeks in the banyaks we spent 15 usd, on fish and crayfish from the fisherman. Before that, $1500 usd each for 6 weeks including a 10 day passage from Langkawi to the Banyaks. so, between 200 and 300 usd each per week. We eat like kings on the yatch, fresh baked bread every day, if someone has the energy left to bake it at lunch after surfing 5 hours in triple overhead left and right handers.
All the best from Keith.

Really?
I get to do most of the work while you do most of the surfing? That sounds less than awesome.
How many people are travelling? How many boards do you travel with?

Ahoy spark, please private message me if you want a serious dialogue, give me your email? Click on my user name surfmachine and go to private message.
Only me on the boat at the moment, seeking one crew.
When I am surfing the crew surfs as well,, plus any other time they choose, unless I am working on the boat. The crew cleans the galley and sweeps the floor, cooks alternate meals, plus keeps watches during passages.
I have 3 boards on the board racks on the davits.

Re: Surfing Mentawis and Banyak Islands - Four Months
Thanks for the reply Erick. I would welcome you aboard, after further discussion. However, the share of costs is not negotiable, I have spent the last 3 days filling the diesel and water and all the food cupboards. What we agree upon is payable, upfront, before you step aboard, and is non refundable. about $1000 usd for the first month, after that, as needed, sometimes nothing! Depends on where we go and how much the motor runs and how much food we consume. what does it cost you per month to live at home?
There is really no hard work to do, just normal living, at home you need to cook your meals and clean up afterwards, same on the yacht. Plus, keep watch on long passages.
Hardest work is getting up in the morning, to face perfect surf, again, and paddle out with aching muscles!!!
All the hard work on the yacht has been done, it is in perfect shape, I have worked long and hard to save the money to buy and maintain the yacht.
Hope that this helps?
Keith.

Nice to eet you. Totally understand the boat cost you a lot and I am sure you have put tons of work into it, I respect that. I just wanted to see if maybe there was any opportunity to pay for some in labor due to my current situation. You are looking for someone asap correct? Or is their a time frame I could make it in? Re: Surfing Mentawis and Banyak Islands - Four Months
Ahoy shipmates
Surf is way better here in NIAS since the quake of few years ago, whole reef has lifted about 8' up in the air, waves are superb.
Had best day of surf, maybe, in my whole life today. 7 set waves before brekky, pushing 8' to 10' sets, waves the size of the gables on my house, a two story house, then 20 set waves in the arvo from 3pm to 6 pm, absolute glass, only 2 waves didn't get all the way. 6 guys out, the rest pounded out of the arena!!
Absolutely amazing waves here in lagundri bay. 30 foot faces easy!!!! riding my 7'5" I made at christmas, 4" thick round tail thruster, paddles onto anything and is really loose to surf and turn on the face.
These waves are like gold here!!?
Lovely fresh tuna for tea last night, from local fishing boat.
was going for roast chicken dinner ashore trhis evening with simon, old mate from Kuaii, but the indos bought him a pidgeon or quail, not enough even for 1 person, another day.
Will stay away from the Mentawis, too crowded, after 1 month here I move to Bawa, Asu, Afulu, then back to Bankaru and the Banyak Islands until October 10th, when I return to Sibolga for a 1 month visa extension, then maybe the Mentawis as I have to pick up a lot of gear from Padang. Back in Langkawi in late November.
Still looking for crew to join the yacht for the trip back from Indonesia to Langkawi, this would be a free trip, except for your air fares in and out. If crew joins the yacht for surfing time in the banyaks, Nias, Banyaks, then it on a share costs basis.

Re: Surfing Mentawis and Banyak Islands - Four Months
Ahoy Paul, every day I am on this yacht is a blessed gfit!!! It is such an amazing situation to be in, have a floating mobile home, able to move it at a thought and a bit of effort and glide across the water to another perfect bay with a world class right hander peeling off over the starboard bow, crosby stills nash and young blasting on the dvd player, belly full of avacado juice with chocolate and fresh tropical fruits and ...............................................its 2.4 metres at 17 seconds wave period tomorrow, for 4 days. Pheww, I need a rest from it all?
Good night all.
