Rookie looking for advice and to learn.

Hello Everyone,

My name is Ryan, I am a 26 year old male. I have never sailed before but I know my way around boats. I have worked an office job in Mobile, Alabama since I graduated college 4 years ago and I have decided that the office life is not for me. I am looking for an adventure of just about any length. If you have an opportunity or some general advice on getting on a boat I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks for your time.

Re: Rookie looking for advice and to learn.

There are a few things you can do.
1. Learn how to sail by taking lessons. (Competent Crew)
2. Offer to fly yourself to the yacht's port of depature.
3. Offer to share expenses. (Food etc.)

Thumbs up Re: Rookie looking for advice and to learn.

Rookie,

Many people of dreams of sailing around the world, I am one of them and not yet done it.

I have had 2 sailboats, the first when I moved from Missouri when I was 25 and moved to California and the second one I just purchased 4 months ago. I am currently outfitting it and taking her out every other weekend learning to sail again. (To the islands off the coast of Ventura, CA)

Its a 31 Hunter and I am taking it slow but would like to take her into serious waters in 2 years when I retire, giving me 2 years to fit her with everything I need and then start sailing and see how far I get.

If you make it out to California, look me up and perhaps we can start learning to sail together or perhaps hit it off and we might find an adventure buddy. check me out: Facebook rick2164@msn.com Rick
