PEI to the South Coast of Newfoundland, back

Voluntary crew wanted for the month of August for a trip from Prince Edward Island up the west coast of Cape Breton Island (lots of pilot whales there last year), then to St. Paul Island (do a little diving) and then along the south coast of Newfoundland visiting the outports of La Poile, Grand Bruit (abandonned but might be a couple of summer residents), Grey River. Plan to explore a few uninhabited fjords.

Re: PEI to the South Coast of Newfoundland, back

Hi

I am planning a similar trip from Pictou, N.S. but through the Bras d'Or Lakes up to Dingwall and then across. Would like to go as far as Francois (pronounced Fran Sway) What dates are you planning for your trip.

I made the reverse trip in 2011

Where are you at now, Itoro? You need to give an address to get a reply.

Re: PEI to the South Coast of Newfoundland, back

Hi David:

I liked the pix on your website. If the refit on Rover is not finished and Evensong is gone, then perhaps you might want to go back to Francois. It is not far from Grey River, so I had already figured I might go there.

Being from Pictou you might know my boat, Icon, which Frank Best built near Ballantyne's Cove.

I am planning to leave about August 6. I expect the trip to take about a month.

Why don't you come over on the ferry if you are interested and we can chat. You don't need to bring your car, Icon is docked right beside the ferry. I am still working my bee business in the daytime but you are welcome to spend the night on the boat with me. My cell number is 902 969 9656.

Re: PEI to the South Coast of Newfoundland, back

well, let me tell you a little about myself. I am a retired seamanship years ago, and I have been sailing for over 10 yrs. I used to be a first mate in a Mega Yacht named Sakajawya in Fort Lauderdale in 2007 now sailing on sailboats only, but, never been i a journey like that. I am 51 yrs old, Portuguese, English and Spanhish speaker, no smoking, drinking sometimes, no drogs, good health, hard worker, and also I am a boat painter and good and repairing any kind of damage. I have been working in France in many boat yards and for a some Mega Yachts aswell.
I am sure I will be important for your boat on this journey, I will be in Vancouver, Canada by July 27th. Please reply to my email address...itororo75@yahoo.com.br and let know when you will be in Tuktoyaktu your telephone number there and the name of the marina. I will meet you there, if you want

my regards

Public service announcement for anyone who doesn't know Canadian geography: Vancouver and Prince Edward Island are on opposite coasts, about 6,000 km apart. Tuktoyaktuk is on another coast where there isn't a lot of sailing.

Re: PEI to the South Coast of Newfoundland, back

Hi David:

I know Ernie well. He also kept bees a long time ago. His boat, the Lily, was mostly built by his father Johny although I am sure Ernie was involved. Johny was an excellent boat builder and built many sailing and fishing boats.

Please do contact me on your return.

Re: PEI to the South Coast of Newfoundland, back

As pointed out, Vancouver and Prince Edward Island are as far apart as Canada and Mexico. And Tuktoyuktuk is not on the sailing plan (this year).

Re: PEI to the South Coast of Newfoundland, back

I now have a friend going from PEI as far as Port au Basques or maybe Rose Blanche Newfoundland. But still have availability for crew after that. (There is lots of room on the boat for more than 2 anyway). Departure date is August 8.

Re: PEI to the South Coast of Newfoundland, back

Stan,
I'm a Canadian living in Kansas City and sailing the Maritimes, especially Newfoundland, is on my bucket list. Certified ASA bareboat and U.S. Sailing (seemed like a good idea at the time) with good, miscellaneous experience. Two weeks ago captained a Jeanneau 41 in the Apostle Islands on Superior, this spring sailed a similar boat from Ft. Lauderdale to Biscayne and back for a week. I own my own company so am very flexible and would very much enjoy the opportunity as i want to add to my experience for more confident family sailing adventures. I can cook and clean and watch too...
sidebar - I appreciate that folks on this forum are kind and gentle when one of us make a mistake - Tuk/Vancouver/Cape Breton - our dang politics are not permitting much gentleness these days, at least in the states.
Best wishes,
Dave
