Out from Indo

Hi, I am in Indonesia right now and in the next couple months it is possible that I would want to hitch a ride on a boat out towards various possible destinations. I need advice on this please. It could be to Darwin (making my way east), or to the Maldives (making my way west). How is it in Indo? (Safety, seasons etc)
To be honest, I have little sailing experience but have been eager to learn, and best way to do it is on the boat. I love the water. Very passionate, respectful.
I just wanna travel and surf in different locations without spending too much.
I thought I could offer crew help, learn, offer some cash for passage on boats.

You should contact the organisers of “Sail Indonesia” leaving this July from Darwin.
They may know of some spot for you on a boat.
