Re: Ocean Work Next Week - PNW the Real Thing

Well, its done. Special thanks to the two CF's who crewed. The ten knots of wind and low seas had whitecaps and some pretty good swells. Some chop, confused seas, fog, dangerous traffic- I think we had it all. And I was sea sick enough not to enjoy it all. But its done. Learned a lot, but still processing. The most important thing for me is that I faced my demons : Offshore in the North Pacific and survived.

Congrats.
How long did the passage take? You had originally guessed two days I think, did that work out?
Distance?

Well done! Yeah, it can be disconcerting for sure. I never got seasick and then I started to occassionally when I got older....

Departed Neah bay 0830 Saturday. In to Slip 0300 Monday morning. A little longer than I thought, but not quite 2 days.
Thank you guys for all the support. Esp. Charlie for babying my boat for the past 3 years.

Way to go! Tough luck about the puke bucket but I guess it's all part of the show. A friend who suffers as soon as she's in ocean swell tells me there's an industrial strength ginger extract out there that works for her, without the side effects of some of the other cures.

Re: Ocean Work Next Week - PNW the Real Thing

Newt,
Glad to see you're tucked in.
I just got back from my trip last night at 1 AM.
We saw a ton of whales, birds and porpoises off the Columbia on the way down.
At least 6 at a time, spouting, flippers and tails in the air.
Must have been a giant ball of krill.

Re: Ocean Work Next Week - PNW the Real Thing

Hey Newt are you going to stay in Astoria? I'm in PDX now, looking to get to Astoria in the next month or so. Probably slip there until mid-august , then heading south. I'd be interested to know what you experienced there for berthing.

Good job Newt getting to the Columbia river safely. We hope to sail down stream later in August if work permits . If you come up stream drop by Clover Island and visit

Re: Ocean Work Next Week - PNW the Real Thing

Senor- you missed the best part of the trip- going up the Columbia with a current against you while slowly running out of fuel in the middle of the night. It was fun to see you out there. I think this must be the longest help wanted thread there is....
Gary- I have looked over a ton of slips around the Columbia bank- PM me if you want to get the low down. I am pretty happy with mine in Warrenton, but it comes with a commitment of a year. Transient slips there are 25 night.

Re: Ocean Work Next Week - PNW the Real Thing

Newt,

Compare that slip rate with Newport Bach.
A 34x 16 foot slip with horrible access goes for $1245 / month.
