New crew available

Looking for a position on a boat where I can learn to sail and maintain a sail boat. I would like to be involved in all aspects of the boat: sailing, navigation, maintenance, etc. I am available anytime after August 3rd.
Willing to arrive early and help get the boat ready and whatever else needs to be done. Also willing to share costs of food, fuel, etc. Would like the trip to last a week or more.
A little about me. I am a 32 year old male. I have no experience on a sail boat, but what I lack in experience I will make up in a desire to learn. I plan to own my own boat in the near future.
I have worked as a residential carpenter, sheet metal worker (aviation sector), electrician, and now I am a refrigeration technician. I'm no stranger to hard work.
If interested in having me as crew or wanting to know more, please feel free to send me a PM.

Re: New crew available

Hi, hopeful sailor,

Welcome aboard.

IMO, there are too many armchair sailors here and too few with boats, so I challenge CF to find a spot for you!

I think you will be better served by showing up at local yacht clubs where skippers want crew for racing. Tell them you are a novice, some will take you on and train you. If the skipper turns out to be someone who screams at his crew, change skippers. You will get a variety of experience, and it is a quite reasonable entree to sailing.

If you decide you really like it, then start with a small boat for a while and refine your likes and dislikes before you buy a bigger boat. It will cost you less in the long run.
