Netherlands to Venice

Excellent opportunity for crew seeking mile building and/or passage-making experience to join our voyage, in S/V Gabriel a 39' Wauquiez Amphora, from Northern Germany to Italy (Venice, tbc).

Happy for crew to join for individual legs, (Belgium-UK, UK-La Coruna, Portugal-Spain, Spain- Balearics, Sicily/Italy, Adriatic etc.), or entire voyage. We will be making various stops along the way in locations with good transport links for flights, as well as rest and relaxation. This is not a hard-nosed commercial delivery but more a relaxed and enjoyable voyage for all on-board to bring Gabriel safely to her new home in Italy.

Happy to consider various experience levels depending on the leg, for the Amsterdam to UK or Bay of Biscay crossing we would like a minimum RYA Day Skipper with something like 2k nm which includes offshore multi-day (48hrs+) non-stop passages with solo night watches. But for other legs we may consider less experienced crew. As always on a sailing boat it is personality that makes all the difference, pulling together as a team and having a sense of humour.

The voyage is currently underway - we are docked in Delfzijl, in the Netherlands, and the next leg will be to passage the North Sea and English Channel to the south coast of England. We will embark on this leg as soon as additional crew joins the boat.

Re: Netherlands to Venice

B4rr13,

I am interested in joining you for a portion of your trip. I'm 35 years old from Colorado, USA. I'm still a bit of a novice sailor but looking for more experience. I have 8 years of occasional (a few of weekends / year) small boat daysailing experience and this Spring (2013) I completed a week long liveaboard course and received ASA certifications for Basic Coastal Cruising and Chartering. I'm aware that my resume of sailing experience is a bit light but I'm committed to working hard to pick up new things quickly. I'm easy going, responsible, a good cook and quite handy. I'm not prone to seasickness or motionsickness. I am willing to pay my own transportation costs and my fair share of expenses aboard. I have a family so some advance planning may be necessary. I could get away for about 2 weeks depending on when you need help.

Let me know if you're interested in speaking further.

Doug

Re: Netherlands to Venice

Travel expenses are negotiable and the only contribution required is towards your food.

Below are indicative passages, with distance/durations and potential commencement dates, that represent a framework upon which we will develop the actual voyage plan. This is to assist you in deciding which legs you would like to participate in depending on your dates of availability. We may not necessarily stop at all these specific ports, we may make shorter or longer passages depending upon crew ability, and joining/departing destinations with transport links for flights will also influence the actual route travelled.

Deflzijl to Ijmuiden - 150 nm (30 hours) - w/c Mon 26th August
Ijmuiden to Dover - 160 nm (32 hours) - w/c Mon 26th August
Dover to Falmouth - 260 nm (52 hours) - w/c Mon 26th August
Falmouth to La Coruna - 425 nm (85 hours) - w/c Mon 2nd Sep
La Coruna to Lisbon - 355 nm (71 hours) - w/c Mon 2nd Sep/Mon 9th Sep
Lisbon to Gibraltar - 315 nm (63 hours) - w/c Mon 9th Sep
Gibraltar to Palma - 455 nm (91 hours) - w/c Mon 9th Sep
Palma to Cagliari - 340 nm (68 hours) - w/c Mon 16th Sep
Cagliari to Straits of Messina - 325 nm (65 hours) - w/c Mon 16th Sep
Straits of Messina to Gouvia, Corfu - 285 nm (57 hours) - w/c Mon 16th Sep
Gouvia to Dubrovnik - 210 nm (42 hours) - w/c Mon 23rd Sep
Dubrovnik to Venice - 245 nm (49 hours) - w/c Mon 23rd Sep/Mon 30th Sep
(rough total upwards of 3500 nm and at least 6 weeks)

To enable us to short-list suitable crew and to decide on suitable legs for specific experience levels please could you supply the following information. Don’t be put off if you don’t necessarily have experience of all the below fields, this information allows us to decide on the appropriate type of passage, distance and duration that would be suitable for your level of skills/experience.

Please provide as much information as possible as this avoids having a prolonged email conversation and allows us to schedule a Skype call with short-listed crew.
