Need Two Crew - Ft. Myers South ~ October Returning April

Need two People to help handle a Hunter 43. Will be leaving Ft Myers around Oct depending on weather. Going to sail south will be back around April.. Must have your own money for food and drink. If you have no experience handling a sail boat or any money, don't apply.

South from Ft Meyers? That’s a whole lot of real estate. The keys, the leeward’s, the windward’s and even S. America is south. I’ve delivered several but have found mid November to be a better time frame. Can you be a little more specific on your plans?

I am planning to take a trip for about that long in the near future. However, it will be my first time! Been sailing my whole life on lakes, but no ocean yet... What is a reasonable cash flow per month? Thanks for the advice..

Depends on what breaks and your life style. I’ve gone over 1500 km with good wind and spent $0.00. Then again headed for St. Vincent we had funky winds and the cost of diesel was considerable. Figure dockage vs anchoring and the C&I costs is a wild card. The Bahamas can be really expensive if you need stuff or stop there and pay their C&I fees. On the other hand the T&C’s are really cheap unless you go shopping.

Just a note...You may want to have one person who is better at cooking and provisioning or brings local knowledge about your destinations (check in procedures, local customs, etc.) or medical knowledge, etc. I found that aspect was a lot more important to me than having a crew that knew how to sail. With 2 crew you may get one that knows how to sail and one that doesn't
I already know how to sail, and as skipper, I determine the sail plan and changes. Wake me up at any time and I'm happy to get the boat rigged right, explain something or listen to their concerns. I choose crew for what they knew, and I didn't, and most often they run the boat except the sailing. Worked really well for me and them. None of my crew could sail, but in very short time, could pick me up if I fell overboard. If you are going to have crew on board think about what they can ADD to the cruise. JMO

Fort Myers to the Keys - easy, not much euipment required; I did it on a 27ft Cal in 1978 with an AM radio, a direction finder, and a depth finder. From there on going South gets more strenuous. should carry an Epirb, Life raft, etc. Plan for a lot of upwide sailing as the Trades will predominate out of the East. See "The Gentleman's Passage South". Small jumps can be made with daylight passages. I wouldn't go without a "plan" of where and when.

Remember the "be nice rule" folks. This forum is for seeking crew match ups and not for discussions of the merits of the plan. Thanks.

Hello Drich and all. Was thinking of flying but why haha if you need part time crew. Ill pay my own way as long as your going to jamaica. I just bought my second sail boat(westerly 26) last year.Solo-ed it, 2 months in fl, 5 months in the bahamas and have been with it in jamaica for the past 6. I need a ride to it with no definitive time schedule other than to miss the cold.
