We brought a FP Bahia over to Dubai from the Med during feb/march earlier this year. no signs of them really..stopped over in Yemen...very friendly. only thing you need to take precautions and prepare your cat as good as you can all the way.
During our mandatory stop in the late afternoon on the Suez canal when mooring the cat in Ismalia there was machine gun fire around the corner and in the Gulf of Aden approx 80Nm east of us a shiipingvessel got shot at by skiffs..good aswell we didnt left Aden a day earlier..

Interesting post (and replies). Do you know whether military vessels are still patrolling the gulf (against piracy)? I'm sure they would not offer private yachts an escort or convoy service but could a person find out which ships are going to be where and when and pre-determine their course, direction and speed then try and transit in their shadow?
