Michigan to Hawaii - Magically

Aloha!

I am a filmmaker preparing to shoot an environmental documentary this summer around the Hawaiian islands aboard the 26' Westerly Centaur sloop 'Desire', captained by my friend Kai Schwarz. Here's the project blog...

On Desire

The trick is to get there without a jet plane. I've got the land transit covered, now I need a boat from *anywhere* - Mexico, California, Oregon, Washington, BC Canada - to the Hawaiian Islands.

I am a white male, straight, 46 years old in excellent physical shape. I've sailed since I was a kid on hobie cats and windsurfers and have a little crew experience too. I'm fairly computer savvy and have some radio knowledge. I am NAUI scuba certified. I cook some pretty fantastic vegetarian cuisine and can teach yoga and tai chi.

I am an easy going gregarious polymath who is calm and capable in crisis. I am also organized, disciplined and I collaborate well.

I'll be traveling with portable production gear and will document when my crew responsibilities permit. The gear combined with my personal stuff all fits into a largish duffle.

I can either work for passage or share some expenses. I would love to find a competent cruiser but am also open to a commercial situation - I would appreciate hearing about any opportunities. Advice and guidance are welcome!

My schedule is flexible - the sooner the better.

It seems to me, that a Renaissance Man, able to document the voyage, might be a real asset to any vessel with room aboard, in the “TransPac” race (LA ➛ Hawaii).
Crew lists were due May 27; but perhaps an interested skipper could amend his list to include you.
Staggered departures begin June 29, so not much time.

I have posted to the pin board at the Transpac site but it seems a bit wonky. Can you recommend anyone in the organizing committee I could talk to?

June 29 is not too soon for me!

Before your post I searched for "transpac" on google and all I could find was last year's single handed transpac... So thanks again, you must be some kind of divine messenger!
