In Panama Now to South Pacific.

Hey,*
I am an enthusiastic and experienced crew*member*who would like to join a crew to cross the pacific from*around Panama to french polynesie or more.
I am in panama NOW and i can stay for up to 1 month. I am also looking for advises to find a boat.

I am smiling, dynamic and very motived. I will obviously gladly help with all the necessary tasks, and I can finance my own food. I am used to navigating with different generations of people and I have always liked the diversity of this.

I'm french girl and I'm 21 years old. I have finished my 4th year in medicine but i have taked a break off of my study for 1 year to travel. I have already been 3 months in south amerique and 2 months in San francisco to learn english.

My Experience (only monohill):
Since I was a child, my*family*rented a boat every year during 1 or 2 weeks.
When I was 17 I joined the french sailboat shool " Les Glenans" to go on many cruises.
Now I work as a qualified sailboat teacher in this school during the holidays.
2 years ago with a friend of mine I have created a boatsail association in my university to participate in the famous student french regate:
"C.C.E - Course Croisiere Edhec."
*

I can also speack basic spanish.

Thanks for your answer or your help
and kind regards,
Laure

Re: In Panama Now to south pacific.

you should have no problem finding a yacht at this time of year.
you should also consider offering your services as a line handler for yachts transiting the canal.
try leaving notices at balboa yacht club, colon yacht club and shelterbay marina.
it is still a bit early for yachts leaving for the pacific, but many yachts arrive at this time and cruise the san blas islands.
try also Yacht crew agency, yacht crew vacancy, sailing crew from Crewseekers

"Hey atoll,
Thx a lot for your advise! I was looking for places to leave my note.
I would like to go to colon but everyone here tells me it's very dangerous. But i think i have more of a chance in colon than in panama city. I'll see.
If there are boats in San blas, i will visit san blas to leave notes too. I will have to see.
Thx!
Bon vent!

you could also try sending a private message to nick on s/v jedi who is currently in shelter bay marina (a great guy from holland)

also if you post another thread on the " destinations" page for caribean and atlantic and offer to line handel for the panama canal you will get a lot more coverage for crewing and meeting other cruisers.

bon chance!

Laure, the Shelter Bay marina is in Fort Sherman, not in Colon and it is perfectly safe. You need to take a taxi (from the Colon bus station) to come here and you can walk the docks and talk to all the boats.

Right now the Oyster World Rally is here and they will all go through the canal. You should come as soon as possible!

Good luck!

p.s. The Panama Canal Yacht Club in Colon does not exist anymore

Re: In Panama Now to south pacific.

Hello Laure

We are a Norwegian family that will transit the Panamacanal and continue to Galapagos and French Polynesia. We are now in Colombia and will come to Panama in the beginning of March, and are planning the transit in the second half of March (we are in contact with an agent in Panama who will do the neccessary paper work for the transit).
We are looking for someone to join us to help out on boat handling and day to day tasks on board.
Jo captain, 35 yrs, Maria 1mate, 34 yrs, Birk 5 yrs, Billie 3 yrs, Mikkel 1 year. We started in Oslo in April 2012 and plan for the next three years to come to sail the south pacific.
If our transit in the canal is not to late for you please get back to us.
We sail a Nortwind 47, 1989 model. You get the forepeak. Check our blog "S/Y Felice" (in Norwegian) for pictures and more.

Regards Felice
