We are a friendly couple aged 30 & 32 heading out on a semi-RTW-trip in February. We are taking 7 months off from our jobs as IT- and oil/gas-engineers in Scandinavia to backpack and hopefully gain som sailing experience.
Sailing experience:
During the past year, we have taken an 11
day sailing course to achieve "Day skipper" licence, rented a sailboat for a week on our own in
Croatia, taken an advanced sailing course to achieve "Coastal skipper" licence, rented a sailboat several times for shorter trips based out of our home town, as well as taken the
VHF certificate. However, we do not own a sailboat (yet

), so our experience is not extensive.
So far, we have flights booked to the following destinations:
01.Feb-07.Mar:
New Zealand
07.Mar-25.Mar:
French Polynesia
25.Mar-29.Mar: Easter Island
29.Mar-03.May: Probably Southern Chile/Argentina
03.May-12.May:
Galapagos
12.May-August: TBD - maybe a short or long sailtrip to/from anywhere?!
(Most of the dates can be changed underway, apart from the
Galapagos trip.)
We have considered to rent a
boat for a week or two in one or two destinations, however, this is extremely expensive. Also, we would enjoy the opportunity to sail with and learn from someone with more experience than ourselves.
If anyone is interested in having us join their
boat for a shorter or longer time in a location that partially matches our itinerary, please get in touch! Or if you are a couple/small group yourselves looking to share rent for a boat, e.g. in
French Polynesia in March or Panama/Belize/Caribbean from May onwards.
We are easygoing, sporty, flexible and quite handy people. No strong/special beliefs/convictions/abilities, food-wise or otherwise. Quite clean and can make ok
food. Can send reference letter from sailing course instructor, employer, etc. And actually never been seasick so far - maybe you will help us make that happen in 2014?!
