Sounds like a perfect trip for me if I didn't have school loans to pay off. Where are you shoving off from?

Re: Erie Canal => NYC => Intracoastal to Florida => Roatan, Honduras

Hi there
I've done the trip from Chesapeake Bay to Marathon Fl, on my own 37 Endeavour and crewed with my friend ( twice) on his 41 Dickerson.
Love the trip on the ICW and going out on when nice weather
evrything is decided by the weather
Can't get there ( Chesapeake Bay ) till mid september
if useful, get back to me

Marty

Dave, The Erie Canal is now closed due to extensive damage from the hurricane and will likely not reopen this season. You need to check with the Canal Authority to get updates. Chuck

NEW YORK STATE CANAL SYSTEM

NOTICE TO MARINERS

CANAL CLOSURE UPDATE

August 30, 2011

Mariners are advised that the entire Champlain Canal, and the Erie Canal between Locks E-19 (Frankfort) and E-2 (Waterford), are closed to all navigation.
Hurricane Irene caused record flooding in the Mohawk River and the Canal Corporation is currently assessing damage to several structures. Updates will be provided once the full extent of damage and what efforts are necessary to reopen are determined. Updates regarding the reopening status of the Erie Canal will not be available until next week at the earliest. Updates for the Champlain Canal should be available sooner.

Re: Erie Canal => NYC => Florida via ICW => Roatan, Honduras

Are you still looking for crew? I am very interested. I have done the ICW a few times on a 200 ton 200footer so still remember alot of the spots. I have about 100 days of commercial service logged as well as another 100 of pleasure sailing. If you need more info please feel free to contact me.

Thanks

Matt

Champlain Canal is open so you could do Montreal to NY that way if you wanted to.

Yes, the St. Lawrence and Thousand Islands area are beautiful and interesting, and so is Lake Champlain. Actually, if I had my druthers, I think the Champlain Canal route is much nicer than the Erie Canal route.
