Be sure to check the bridge clearance in the Chicago area I believe there are some fixed height bridges and a sailboat will have to step the mast. I have talked with several people in the marina and they all agree the Illinois river is pretty much a ditch. The Mississippi has no debris around here (mm UMR 283), the Missouri is below flood stage near Saint Louis, Mo. so the Mis should be cleaning up down there as well. Instead of taking the Mis. to Nola you could take it to the Ohio river and then down the Tennessee river into the TenTom waterway to the Tombigbee river and into Mobile bay. It is a great trip in the fall. Good Luck
