Desperately need to get from west coast to Hawaii.

Hi Everyone,

I just came about this site today, it seems like an active community, nice to see.

Long story short; I've been planning on hitchhiking across the US for a year, leaving from San Clemente, CA to DC, NY then MI to live in a cabin on a lake for a year (to read, write, live...ya know).

BUT

Then my best friend since 3rd grade decides he's going to stay in Hawaii for 2 more months, meaning I wont be able to see him before i go unless i go out there.

I need to get to Hawaii. if ANYONE is leaving from ANYWHERE on the west coast on ANY DAY in SEPTEMBER...i would love to go with you. I have no money to fly or to take a freighter.

I have no experience, im not gonna lie, but i would be eternally grateful.

Can anyone help me?

With respect, I strongly suggest you go to an airport and see if you can find a cheap standby ticket.

CA to Hawaii is definitely not a trip to be taken lightly. A skipper looking for crew is going to want someone with enough experience to competently stand a night watch. Otherwise, you would just be someone taking up space and provisions.

I applaud your honesty, though.

Hey Jeremy,
You might want to fly in the middle of Hurricane season. Hawaii is over 2000 nm from anywhere and if you get into trouble out there, good luck! Not a trip for hitch hikers or beginners! Be careful with who you sail,and take the time to learn some skills. Your life and others may depend on it!

Why not get a job, save some money and buy an airplane ticket to Hawaii.

Do people still hitchhike? I'm guessing you'll spend more time talking to law enforcement officials than seeing the USA. Unless you get very lucky and someone adopts you.

Have you thought of riding a bicycle, a small tent and a sleeping bag? A motorcycle would be faster.
